please help any 246gt engine experts!

There are 4 main bearings on the crank of the 246 gt engine. The middle pair are identical. But the front and rear bearing are much wider. (although one is slightly wider than the other!) I have had my block vapour cleaned and there is no trace or mark of where the old shells sat. My question is: does the slightly wider bearing fit to the back (thrust washer end) or the front of the crank (pully end) It would seem that they are interchangeable!

I have pictures of the last 246 engine I built and it would apper that the wider shell sits to the front, this looks the same as another picture of a dino engine I found on the net. Even Ron from superformance, who is a mind of fantastic information, is not positive, but he and another dino engine builder I spoke to feels that it would make sence if the wider bearing was at the back!! Also has anyone fitted wider bearings to both front and back?? Is there a reason for one of the bearing shells being slightly narrower than the actual housing?

Any help appreciated -very much so engine half way through assembly!

Compare the crank journals to the bearings. If it hasn't been re-ground you should be able to see which one was wider.
