This is a really special Dino. It's owned by my collegue at Ford, John Clinard. He's owned it since '89 twice. Engine/gearbox is the original matching number block built with the rare 4 valve heads, Stratos pistons, headers and carbs. Puts out about 270hp. Apparently parts for only 25 of these engines exist. John has had the car in Indiana for years. Just got it to California the other day. Lots of work to do. He wants to create a vacu-formed clear plexi air-box feeding filtered air in from the side air intakes. The flairs have been subtly flaired to cover the wider tires. Visually impossible to tell the difference from stock. Don't worry, he's getting rid of the Supertraps! The sound of the motor is nothing short of amazing!

    Enjoy,

Thanks, Freeman. That's a beautiful car. It must be a real thrill to drive.

Can you tell us who did the engine modifications and when? Were the drivetrain and brakes modified as well?

I will see what John knows. Also if anyone knows about previous owners/history John would be appreciative. It's had this motor built since at least '89. John thinks the gearbox is stock(shifts like butter according to John), brakes/suspension are also stock. Has an unusual non-branded ignition system mounted on the left side of trunk vs the right. We'll photograph this later when I have access to the car.

    Thanks Matthias!

Hopefully this thread will help John learn more about his car. He has tried to find Carl Corbett of Escondido with out any luck. John first saw this car at an auction in '89. His friend bought it then John bought it from him. Original colors were Blu Scurro w/beige vinyl just like mine(*03932*)! the red vinyl was put in by his friend. What are the odds of two non-red European spec E-Series Dinos living together with the same original color combo!

I'm interested in a photo of the ignition and coil, can probably identify the type and manufacturer. Distributor looks like it had a conversion to a Pertronix Ignitor as trigger unit.

I just uploaded on to "YouTube" the video I took the other day of John's Dino. You can find it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6DwmJ27dt0

It's the first time in a long time that its been started. Eventually all the smoke clears! Next time I promise we'll be better prepared and remove the caps on the Supertraps! Maybe even take it out for a drive.

    Enjoy!

Fabulous car! I love the colour combination too...

I'm slowly building up a similar one but with slide injection from the F2 4 valve Dino engine and efi instead of the lucas mechanical system. Also using a new alloy body as the original steel sheel was totalled. I will post pics as it progresses.

Looking forward to seeing it! The 4 valve heads on John's Dino have cast in provisions for the slide-valve injection.

If that's the case they might be F2 heads. The slide throttle manifolds bolt on to the inlet stubs differently than the carb manifolds I think. The obvious difference is that the F2 has 4 bolt exhaust flanges and the Stratos has 2.

Freeman, The color looks like Blu Sera, which I have on one of my Dinos. I've often wondered how it would look with a blood-red interior, ever since I bought a Ferrari book which had a photo of a 365 GTB/4 in that color combination. The answer? Outstanding! Fred

Color is Blu Scuro non-metallic. Same as my Dino *03932*

Will ask John to have a look.
