    Hello Dino 246 parts holders,
Started the disassembly of the engine to prepare for the rebuild. The main thermostat housing assembly p/n 4234165 and thermostat cover p/n 4234162 have severely corroded due to use of an oversized hose which allowed for coolant to seep and become stagnant. There are a good number of holes. I am going to see if my machinist can effect any repairs on Monday, but if someone has good used ones let me know. I will be very much interested in purchasing.

I can get a new thermostat cover from Ferrari for $93, but they don't have the main housing the thermostat sits in.

    Doesn't hurt to ask.

    Rich,

http://www.superformance.co.uk/ has both cover and housing along with all necessary gaskets and thermostat.

Just did it on my Dino. Hope this helps.

Come on over! This will let me spend more time with the family and friends or I could just sit back and watch you work.

My only concern would be your experience level. Do you work at Jiffy Lube? If so, forget it, I will do it myself.

I was hoping Pietro would answer, since he bought the parts. Did you notice that Superformance part number 4206608 doesn't match up to the parts book for the Ferrari Dino 246 part number? May have slipped by that Jiffy Lube eye, like reinstalling the oil drain plug. Superformance has the same part number for the Fiat Dino 246. I didn't know the Fiat Dino 246 had the same assembly. Must be the same? I don't have a Fiat Dino 2400 parts book to confirm the number.

Either way, I will find out. I will buy all my parts at one time after I pull the motor and I start rebuilding the motor, suspension, brakes, fuel lines, coolant hoses, and all the other stuff. I am compiling a list in a spreadsheet with sources and prices.

    Thanks for the input,
    Rich

you're welcome for the info. Very gracious of you to respond so politely. And no, I don't work at Jiffy Lube.

    Dave,
I was returning sarcasm for sarcasm, based on your reply about "installing it for me". Obviously, all was meant in jest, I thought. I don't want to get into a pissing match. Thanks for your input.

I have some experience working on the Italian exotics. I have rebuilt the engines for a Lambo V-12, Fiat Dino 206, and worked on the engines, suspension, brakes, electrical and cooling systems for my previous 4 Ferrari's, 3 Fiat Dino's, Iso Rivolta, Abarth Record Monza, and etc. I did all the research looking for parts, and performing my own work. Not to say I am an expert, but to show I do work on my cars and I am not lazy.

Due to my workload and family needs, I rather ask for information someone may have readily than to spend the time and effort to research it. I didn't mean to offend or imply I was lazy. All the individual has to say is they don't have the part numbers handy or not reply. I have been to the Superformance website before my post, but wanted to see if there were other sources. I also checked Dennis's website. I am always willing to share any info I have and strive to give as much detail as possible. I am in the process of documenting each step of my engine removal, including photos for future reference. I will make it available to anyone who asks for it, when I am done compiling.

As to same motor, same part. That is not necessarily true. I am familiar with the Fiat Dino 206 engine and find there are definite add-ons, deletions and differences with the Ferrari Dino 206.

No insult intended to forum members and if I hurt feelings, I am sorry.

    Rich,

sounds like Dave answered your question. If the thermostat housing is that corroded you might want to examine the water jacket housing as well (that goes into the engine block). See attached picture. S.P. carries that as well. Don't forget the o-rings that go between the water jacket housing and block.

    Yikes!

That is some serious corrosion. Is this the time where we should start a thread about coolant types or sacrificial anodes?
