This may be a silly question but a part of my car flew off when I hit a pothole. It's the chrome half sphere that nests inside of the rubber circular housing where the antenna comes out at the rear. This piece screws into the antenna thread which is beneath the body and hold the antenna in place. Is this a factory part or did it come with the Becker 'period-style' radio that was installed in my car when I bought it? Should I be looking for a NOS Ferrari piece or one from the radio company?

To the best of my knowledge, this would be a part that came with your radio antenna. A Voxson or Becker radio with have an antenna to suit and that is probably what flew off.

the part was installed at the ferrari factory. dino's were fitted with an antenna but no radio. the radio was a dealer option. you should be looking for a nos antenna peice. if i am not mistaken, the antenna unit is not all that uncommon and has cross over to other makes.

Morry. My friend who picked up his car new at the factory in the spring of 1970 informs me that the early cars did not come with antennas unless you ordered a radio. In fact, they installed the antenna and radio at the factory for him only after he selected his radio. That being said, when the Dino production went into high gear, perhaps it became a factory installed item (as wspeer indicated). Becker antennas of that vintage are pretty common (Voxson are probably too if you live in Italy) so you should be able to replace this. There's a Mercedes Benz scrap place in Seattle where you can get old Becker antennas if you can't find one in T.O.

    Cheers...Keith

This happened to me 10+ years ago and I bought a $20 antenna at the local car parts store that had the top nut/decorative chrome arc that nearly matched. The problem is that the body work is not flat at the attachment point.

On another point, I've seen two types of antenna mounts on Dinos - one with a full chrome piece that covers the full half sphere shape and another with a half sphere of black plastic where the chrome top piece is a sweeping arc (not a complete sphere). If the description isn't clear I can post photos of both within a week+.

Hirshmann may be the best bet for a replacement.

Interestingly, my antenna just gave up the ghost. (Wrong anyway)

Gonna get a new $120 Hirshmann and see what it looks like.

Getting a real deal, OEM may prove more problematic. I was offered one at $1000.

I just noticed mine is gone as well. I've been using my car regularly for a few months and I just noticed it gone today. I can't believe someone would steal this part so it must have worked itself loose and dropped off. It's hard to imagine since I just washed the car last week and didn't notice it being loose.

Anyways, is there an update on a replacement part? Or will I have to replace the entire antenna? And if so, which one will fit the contours of the rear fender of the Dino?

    Thanks

    FYI.

I sold the last one a couple years ago. Found them on Ebay Italy.

I did locate a guy who sells Fiat antennas, I think what he sells might be close enough to pass muster. It is not the original stuff, but again, the only time I was offered one of those was some years ago at over $1000.

    this looks close

maybe scrounge parts from this one.

    Dave and Alberto,

Thank you very much. It feels wrong to take a perfectly new antenna and only use the parts I need. But if there's no other choice...
