The hydraulic line fittings used for the brake calipers and connection to the flexible lines do not screw into the master cylinder. The threads for the two (independent) brake systems from the master cylinder appear not to be metric.

Can anyone confirm this, and perhaps provide the proper thread specfication?

This is also the case for the rear balance valve. These fittings, likewise, do not screw into the master cylinder. Hence, there appears to be three different thread patterns - calipers, balance valve, and master cylinder.

    Thanks.

    Jim,
Are these not BSP as in British Standard Pipe threads?

Graham - could well be. I believe that the manufacturer was a subsidary of Bendix, a U.S. company. Hence, SAE threads. However, I am unsure. Just checking if anyone has crossed this bridge before.

    Thanks.

I've crossed that bridge and yes, the fitting in the master cylinder is not metric. I'm not sure of the correct pitch but for sure you don't want to force a metric fitting in or you will crossthread the hole. You could go to the auto parts store and get a few fittings and see which one screws into the mastercylinder easily. Been a while since I encountered the problem as I was making a new hydraulic line and I think it was a US thread pitch.

Racerboy - thanks for confirming my suspicion. One issue, of course, is the thread pitch. The other critical issue is the bubble flare. There is a site on line that has all fittings. I will chase it down.

    Thanks.

The flair is an ISO flair. The iso double flare kits are fairly cheap. Practice on some spare brake line till you get the hang of it. I used a bearing press to squish the tube in the die rather than the supplied threaded tool. Gives a little more control and there is no twisting action involved.

Racerboy - no problem with the flare - I have done many on the car. My only question was in regard to the fittings for the master clylinder. I found what I need on the web and will order tomorrow.

    Thanks for the help.
