I have a 1974 246 GTS with wide campagnolo wheels 14 X 7.5 and I am looking to replace the Valve Stems. The problem is the standard valve stem replacement is for the narrow wheels and is too small. I have tried Superperformance and said to try Ferrari Chat so here I am! I would appreciate any help. Thanks! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Welcome to Fchat. I moved your thread to the very knowledgeable Dino section, as I expect you will have more response there.
Is that the original valve stems you are swapping out with aftermarket stuff (Or trying to swap)? Best, Peter
Yes these are the original valve stems as far as I know. I can replace the inner air valve but the bottom rubber is shot. I never anticipated having a problem getting a whole new valve stem . Venders advertise this as a replacement for the original ones that will fit Compagnolo wheels but they are too small for the wider flared wheels. I could try to make new seals but the bottom rubber is stepped to fit the wheel hole.
same problem with datonas. go to a large tyreshop and see where they get theirs. it will probably a truck that goes around all the tyreshops. you only need the rubbers the rest you can get re plated
Thanks! I have run into a dead end. The inner valve is pretty standard. I guess at this point I will try making some rubber washers to see if they will hold air. Most of the wheels nowadays use pull through rubber valve stems. Tried contacting Compagnolo but no response. Ed Greene
I found some for a set of original Minilites that had a 12,5mm hole. If only I remenbered where... I will try to find the source. Regards, Alberto
Do your outmost to keep the original stems for historical reasons. Some day you’ll thank yourself for doing that. Get them re-chromed and get someone to engineer a new set of seals + retainers for them. I’m surprised if someone on f chat havent engineered a solution already? You’re in the right forum for sure - hopefully someone will chime in soon. Good luck with the project. Best, Peter
I found that I have them, still ignore what is the source. Try this: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Metal+Wheel+Valves&crid=1K66ZOEANJ3RQ&sprefix=metal+wheel+valves,aps,168&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 0.453" & 0.625" Rim Holes
Oh man, I was so furious when a shop "lost" my original stems. (quotes, because I'm still not 100% sure that they did not lift them to put them on a "more important" car...)
Thanks so much, they look like what I need. I might be able to use the washers they come with to complete my originals! I will post my results as it may help others!
Edward, Glad to help! Besides, the cost is low and delivery is quick. Please do let us know. Howard, they may be functional for Daytonas too... Regards, Alberto
Nice information. Did the later stems still have stampings? My are from my 1974 Dino. Thanks for your input.
your style tried is for early Dinos, for later there is the stem cap seal For 1974 the stem ferule on new stem image is wrong position in your figure #2, please turn it upside down. example: https://awitalian.com/product/ferrari-tire-valve-174166.html/ or at tire hardware https://tirehardware.com/product-category/tire-valves/ only $1.56 complete , .453 & .625 rim holes even if you only need a seal is great value https://tirehardware.com/shop/chrome-1-25-performance-specialty-valve-tr416/
