Hello, I need to replace the dash [pad covering in my L - 246GT. Have any of you done that and done that yourself ? Do you have a "best place to buy" suggestion ? If you have done this work, will you please give me a general idea of what to expect and what I must do to complete that project? Thank you. Best wishes, David
Dennis McCann www.allferrariparts.om had some pretty decent repro stuff three years ago when I did my dash. Don't know if he still has it or can get it, but I'd start there. Matt at www.reoriginals.com might be another source. And www.gahh.com who also had it a couple years ago, claimed it was the real thing. As to doing the work, that I left to a professional. DM

i recovered two dash's and on one I used the upholstelry from re- originals and another from Dennis McAnn. I can't remember a difference so check prices. It is very easy to remove the dash. All you do is remove the 4 slot head screws from the door jamb and pull the instrument panel (after removing the knurled nuts from the face plate)forward & disconnect the electrical connections (they only go one one way - so quite easy). You may have to undo the windshield frame surround (4 screws). It is one of the easiest jobs in these cars. Once it is pulled out give it & and the material to you upholstelry guy. I paid maybe $200 bucks (maybe $150) to the interior guy plus cost of material. Maybe $350 all in? It took me about an hour in and out with the dash
Champtc, I assume you have to remove the heater/vent control linkages from underneath first before pulling forward the dash? Is there any need to drop the steering column first? David, if you can, many of us would benefit from a step by step photo of the dash removal? Some photos during the recovering would be good too. Good luck. Mine was covered with Superformances material which they sourced from Italy. It appears very durable,and fellow F-chatter Tony L has had his covered with the same material for some time,and his is as good as new. G P
Ciao Götz, Thank you on the mousehair information. My dash is covered in some ugly velour, already have the necessary mousehair to recover, all I need is a glove box lid or alternately make one, as for a change it was another missing part... I had mine recovered proffesionally as there are some really tight curves etc to bend the fabric around. also there is some stiching do, which isnt my forte!! The superformance fabric is pretty close match to the original as i had a small sample of the original fabric hidden behind the dash for comparision. As Dm stuff points out, removal of the dash and module is pretty straightforward, the only difficult bit is re-attaching the heater cables & top ventilation hoses which is a bit fiddly. If you take your time and have alittle patience then its easy. I removed the sterring wheel hub and lock assembly as it makes it much easier, also you need to do this in order to remove the cover plate which hides the hub assembly. Sorry but i dont have any step by step photos, only before, during and after. tony
How much material did you require? Dennis McCann states between 1.5 and 3 metres, but won't comment further for fear of getting burned Also, Tony is absolutely correct about the steering wheel/igniton key access cover. It should be stated directly that this is also covered with mousehair, although I know he implied it. Getting 10mm wrenches up to those two top bolts with only a 15 degree throw will challenge your patience, but go slowly and all will be well. Take care with the steering wheel stalks.
