Hi, So 00636 has stopped charging the battery and I'm planning to drive the Dino to the workshop in a few weeks. The workshop is about 40 miles / 70 kms from home, and I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how much power a Dino uses during regular driving? No headlights necessary, and I have a spare battery with me but thought it was an interesting question. The battery is 70 Ah, so I am guessing that it should last for a good few hours. Best, Eirik
You will be more than safe with head light off and one extra battery in the trunk. I know that from personal experience driving from Denmark to Dino celebration in Maranello with a weak charging system. Best, Peter
thanks, Peter. I’m fairly sure I drove the best part of last summer without proper charging, so shouldn’t be a problem with a short drive. Hopefully it’s a simple fix.
I opted for an up-rated alternator with build in regulator (75 Amp). Never have had any charging issues since. The standard alternator with max 50 Amp charging current is borderline these days when having to use all day driving light and running up-rated electronic ignitions, various safety system etc.
Is there oil at the alternator? When the cam covers leak, the alternator gets soaked to die. Is common
I saved myself when pouring cold water onto the alternator in two different cars. It actually worked both times. Did charge enough to get me home.

Used to race 1 hour races without an alternator, but with a 12V and a 6V piggybacked. Never used the brakes... 70 miles, no problem, no A/C I assume. Regards, Alberto
