Hi I have been offered a Dino engine with carbs but without gearbox or clutch housing that has been completely rebuilt with nos cylinder heads by a reputable engine builder, I thinking of buying it as a spare, how much would you think a fair offer is for this?

$30K USD, maybe, although who knows, there aren't a lot to compare to for price.

But even if your motor detonated, a rebuild top to bottom shouldn't cost that much, and Dinos are chain driven, thus unlikely to jump their timing and push valves into pistons, unlike the newer belt driven stuff. I rebuilt my engine maybe 10 years ago for around $20K, parts and all including all new valves, seats and pistons, along with getting the heads milled, etc. rebuilt the carbs, cams milled, on and on. So current dollars would still be under $30K. And this was at Algar Ferrari.

And, you have to store it properly, etc. I'd save the cash for the unlikely day you need to rebuild your existing engine.

    Just my $.02
