According to Mike Sheehan the car is being "sold as is". The buyer will have to complete the assembly and paint. Mike (and his partner at Fantasy Junction) doesn't want to be in the "restoration business". If that car sells anywhere near their "absolute bottom line" of $99,500 it will be be stunning and reason for all current Dino owners to find religion and praise the Almighty!
this car has been on the fantasy junction site for a while. i think that if you figure it's an all original car with basicly solid mechanicals with all the goodies, it could be a fun project for someone. even if you factor in paint and the likes, the total costs will be around $125k. not that i agree it is market correct, but look at the car tha sold earlier on ebay. my question is what is the "how to operate a ferrai dino" cassette tape that came with the car new?
How does this work with 3 different brokers "representing" the car? Looks like they are all advertising it to their contacts and then get a referral commission. Its like like listing your house with 3 different realtors...
Good eye..I spotted that in his description, as well.....only came with cassette equipped cars, I suppose.....
You see that happening all the time... just browse through Hemmings and you will see at least two brokers offering the very same car with same description AND same pictures on the same page...
i don't know about three different brokers, but sheehan and fantasy junction work hand-in-hand on many of these older cars. as for the cassette, no us dino had a radio installed by any one other than the dealer.
Should we have Sheehan convert it to a 'sound file' and download it??? This could be IMPORTANT! Maybe it's Enzo himself! Recall the 45RPM of Duntov, talking about the early 'vette???
It's not assembled. You can't do a PPI on the motor. So that's your 1st leap of faith. Figure 100 hours of assembly, maybe more? Plus paint? Plus the other stuff you don't know about yet? ONLY $109,000??? DM
I think the value of the 2.12 Ghia just went up... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80719
In my opinion, the money is a stretch. On the other hand, if all that is left is picking a final color, painting and assembly (body prep, mechanicals, interior, small bit all done), this might make an interesting project. Does anyone know the story of why the car isn't being finished by the current owner? Art S.
I belive that the cassettes were meant to be listened to in the home, rather than while driving in the car. It's not the Beatles, after all.
So have any of you ever seen/heard one of these cassettes? I owned a GTS for many years, and considered buying one back when they were still in production (so I was pretty familiar with them when new on the local showroom floor), but this is the first I've heard of these cassettes.
Don't know the story, but this car has been floating around in this condition for more than a year. MAybe ran out of interest, or money. could be at this price he can make a buck, but finished up, he can't? Dunno. seems close enough to the finish line that they should just go ahead and get it done. DM
Looks like somebody went alittle overboard with the resto, lost his/her shirt in the process, and is looking to get out from under it while breaking even from the investment. You can not do this - the book value of what is left and the amount of money you need to spend on the paint itself makes this a poor financial move from the start.
The photo of the left portion of the engine bay, third column, fourth row down, shows what looks like the kind of fuel filter Alfa used on their Spica mechanical injection cars. Was that factory original?
To All: This is Fantasy Junction. Fantasy Junction and Mike Sheehan own this Dino. We bought it last week. The car is a 10,000 mile example which was shown at Concourso Italiano in 1998, scoring 85.5 points. Three points were docked for original paint which was cracking. The owner wanted a 100pt car, and decided to restore it with that in mind. He is well versed with restoration projects, but like so many of us, has less time and patience than it takes to fully restore a bare metal up car in 100 pt fashion. He did not run out of money and is currently thinking of buying a Lusso, 250 PF Cab, 275 GTB, all in a package and total resto projects. The car is ready to be painted, assembled and enjoyed. There is nothing missing, and a full set of photos, as well as a detailed write up is available at www.FantasyJunction.com, and at www.Ferraris-Online.com. Please note that this car has not been "floating around for a year", and has every possible trinket with it from the factory, including the cassette, which seems to be of particular interest on this site. Please feel free to contact us directly with question about how the car came to be, whats what and how much it might be worth finished in todays market. We can be reached by phone at: 510 653 7555, or by email at [email protected]. We do not monitor this site often.
Ya know, I was going to post a long list of reasons why this car doesn't make sense to buy in its current condition. But, whoever buys it, at this price, is buying with his heart, not his head, and will eventually end up with a car he can be justifiably proud of, at a number that will leave him inside out for years into the future. However, this project wouldn't be about making money on the car after is was restored, would it? If it was, the car would be restored now, and for sale at a number that would make a profit for the dealers involved. DM
Thanks Chris for clarifying the state of the car. We appreciate it, do stop by again from time to time. Cheers, Jon
