Has anyone put flares on their non flares car. What is involved and how do they go on.
In Other Words, How can I make a non Dino flares car a Dino Flares car and increase the value by 20 g's...without the next owner knowing that it is not an originally made car. DaaaaHHHHHH... Dont do it! the car will actually be worth less...10 g's to do it and subtract 10 g's from the value.
Yeah, unfortunately there are a number of fake flared-fender cars running around- what a shame. And in any case they don't "go on", but rather are a different fender altogether, so you'd need to cut and re-work the fender- a lot of work for a fake calculated to falsely increase the car's value.
Not looking to falsely increase the value. I like the looks and it's a car I won't be selling. Why is every thing in here about money, value or originality. Just because it's a Ferrari why can't you customize it like you want. I'm not into car shows and judging if you have your clock tag. I enjoy cars to drive and to mess around with. My last Dino I chromed the expansion tank and the valve covers (I know the purist are shuddering). It looked great and I enjoyed it. To each his own.
Do what you want with the car, don't let the purists get you down. As with any car, I think the Dino can be enjoyed from any angle or perspective. I don't happen to like the flairs, but I sure do like the chairs, so I added them to mine. If you want to chrome the valve covers, DO IT!! Make the car an expression of your personality, and dress it any way you choose. If it ever gets sold, (which I'm sure it someday will) the next owner can put it back to original, or he can continue the customization. (You might want to hang on to the original bits. Mine are all boxed up just in case I ever tire of the car.) My car is largely original in appearance by choice, but under the covers, where no one can see, it is anything but, and runs better because of it. DM
Yeah, you should do what you want with your own car. I just think the flares on the Dino are ugly. Design-wise they lack integration with the rest of the car. Like bent metal tack welded to the fenders.
Yep, we are all different and thankfully so, I love the flares (thats why i bought one) the problem i suspect with adding them to a non original flares car could be that the inner fibreglass wings could be different ( somebody out there will know) all you need is a wizard metal bender and chopper who is also a damm good welder. P S just look at the absolute beauty on Nick Cartrights site currently for sale in the UK Thats the colour mine is going to be!
Sorry Bud.....It is Written, Dont F with F Cars Imagine if president Clinton demanded that Michaelangelos " The David" be altered to have him holdin a Cigar... You dont Mess With History... Just mine and 99.9% of this Boards Opinion BTW... I have owned 5 different Dinos in the past 20 years, 2 ch and Flares and 3 standard....the look of the flares is superior. If you should alter your car I wont blame you!
Flares clash with the beautiful curves. Pinin Farina cringed. But; some folks like them, Ferrari sold them. If you like them, fine. Add them but make it easy to remove them. Little welding, lots of Bondo. If you are doing it because you are going to modern tires, DONT. There is no need. I have 16" wheels and run 205/55 front, 225/50 rear. Offset is 4" front and rear. Measured from inner tire mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. Front wheels are 8" wide, rear 8 1/2". No mud thrown except to rear. Car stays clean. Front tire width / offset is just perfect. Rear offset is just enough to allow 225 tire to clear fender on bump. Plenty of clearance on inside. Rear offset could go to 5" and 250 tires would clear and inside would still be OK. Low profile tires are a vast improvement over the stock /70-14 tires. The sizes I have are well ballanced and the car really does not need any more rubber. Of course, I now wish for another 50 horsepower or so. Let us know what you do and send some pics anyway. John . Image Unavailable, Please Login
Couldn't disagree more. The flares have a striking resemblance to those on the Boxer where the front and rear extend out to the side to a lateral image line. In a head-on or rear-on view they bring the front and rear arch lines together and accent the Campy wheels.
I appreciate the comments and am going with the flares. The car in question is 7836 under DINO RESTORATION.
