I work for a collector who has been looking for a Dino for quite some time, & he is interested in this car. I've posted here before about a project Dino that we were considering, but he has all but decided to pass on that car.

He keeps coming back to 3656 because he is smitten with the color. However, I have not been able to get anything beyond bare minimum information from the seller. This car has been on consignment with an outfit called Specialty Sales for over a year. The seller purchased it at auction in '08. Beyond that, all I know about the car is what's in the Dino Register. I've not been able to get any specifics in the way of service history, cosmetics, etc. "It looks great & runs great" is about all I have.

From the photos on their web site, it seems like a decent, if not awe-inspiring, example, & the price seems to be in the ballpark. However, due to the seller's unwillingness or inability to provide any info on the car, along with the fact that it has languished on the market for so long, I'm reluctant to bill my employer for travel & PPI. OTOH, he keeps coming back to it because of the color. Therefore, I'm hoping someone here might know at least enough about the car to determine whether or not it's worth the time & expense to fly out there for a PPI.

Thanks in advance for any input.

    Mike,

It hasn't been uncommon for cars to sit in today's market. The fact that the broker involved has been unresponsive might very well be the reason the car is still sitting.

I would try to buy from a private parties. If the seller can not represent the car to you that he is selling and must go through adealer then I find that a big red flag.

Make sure that the Dino that you buy has all books, pouch, tools, jack, lug wrench and emergency triangle. Dealers like to snag these and profit later because these "accessories" can command over $15k. Many owners dispell this and enjoy the initial price discount, then later lament that they truly wished they had received the correct goodies included in the original purchase.

I recall when this Dino was being sold at Ron Tonkin and it had all these items - does it now? I find dealers are such a turn off when they pull those tricks of retaining the original items.

John Corbani told me privately on Jan 28, 2007 that the last paint job on his Dino cost $4000.00 and I saw that car many times and thought it looked great.
Perhaps buy the right car and paint it the color you want.

Thanks for everyone's input on this, both in this thread & privately. After weighing all the info, I'm going to recommend that he pass on 3656. Then we'll see what he actually does. :)

Essentially, he's looking for a very nice, driver grade GT that is not red. Takes a lot of cars off the table, doesn't it. :) He doesn't want a show car, but he wants something cosmetically very nice such that it wouldn't look out of place at a regional show. He'd prefer something ready to use upon purchase rather than something that would have to be driven straight to a paint booth. However, a project car is not out of the realm of consideration.

He probably wouldn't miss the tools, books, etc as long as the price is adjusted acordingly. My only concern here is that it sounds like not having this stuff might make a car harder to sell down the road, even with an appropriate price adjustment.
