I drove my gt4 today and it's the first time I had it out in cold air temps since I had the carbs synched/adjusted in late June (after Electromotive XDI install). The air temp today was around mid to high 30s. Prior to today there has been an intermittant off idle hesitation when starting in 1st gear...well holy cow...today.. no hesitation, more peppy, smoother, she seemed more...eager.

Does this mean that my carbs were set to rich in warm weather? Are the carbs/system so sensitive that from 88 to 38 degrees ambient temp there is that much difference in performance? Anyone else experience this?

All carb cars like cold weather; mine does too. Something to do with air density I think.

You need to tune your car when the engine is at running temperature; air temp isn't important (unless you're racing) but altitude is. If your car runs right when the engine is all warmed up, you're good to go!

I've noticed it with any fuel injected car I've driven in both temps as well. Ken is right, it has to do with oxygen density , think along the same lines as intercoolers and boosted engines.

Ok you guys are right, I think, but then isn't it true that if cold air is more dense (more oxygen per measure of volume) in cold weather I'm getting more oxygen. This would mean, would it not, that I was running to rich in warm weather at my present carb settings.

No. Cold air is like adding extra O2. If you set the car up for this condition, it will run lean when everything warms up.

Ken, I think you have it backwards.
