My Alfa Montreal, led my to a wonderful site of its own, until I got into Dinoland.
Every thing was Matthias Bartz :) , but more focused on the mechanical and how to
solve inherent production problems with mostly brilliant answers to Montreal questions.

Bruce Taylor, the author, produced a great 'bible' book on the Montreal.

I would like to propose we start something analog to that, just post 'tried and true'
solutions to the full gamut, but, and this is a big but, don' t post conflicting views
    about someones post.

This would be of terrific help to all that like to restore/tinker/improve Dino.

There must be discipline, or it will fail, as all exposees ought to be one sided, and no,
please don't say: "I can do it better this way" as a reply, just post your version, but prove it.

We might address sub sections, for each sector, i.e. suspension, steering, motor, transmission, electrics,
bodywork, interior details, group buys, etc.

Don't really know how to engineer this online, yet it could become a terrific resource, instead of asking the same question over and over, and, as the 'search section' gives too many options,
and it is very time consuming.

So please guys, if you have a better mousetrap, lets hear from you, but possibly,
before we'd start and maybe with the moderators help, we can do the engineering of said thread before starting.

Alfabb is a prime example, not perfect, but way better than what we have.

Who knows, just as in the Montreals are now in the Alfabb, Matthias can inspire a new book focusing on the mechanical and bodywork aspects.

    Let's hear what you think.

    Regards and Happy Holidays!

    Alberto

Interesting ideas, both. How much work to do either? However, given that no administrators or moderators seems to pay much attention to basic complaints about the "NEW AND IMPROVED" Fchat, I wouldn't expect much help or assistance from them at this point...

    AHEM...

You have a Dinophile back among the moderating team after a multi year hiatus. ;)

But to assume that we as moderators, aren't interested in anything that could improve traffic to the site, or the information flow to and fro, is just, well, wrong. We're constantly working to improve the site, not just trouble shoot software issues.

I was actually looking at the Dino sources thread this morning thinking it needed to be revamped, maybe that's the place to start? and/or a lap around Corbani's corner? there's a ton of information there, along with literally hundreds of existing threads here. The Mercedes site I use has a thread titled something like, "answers, and where to find them" with posts that show the issue, and then link to the answers within the site. That's an option as well.

So, toss it around. decide how you might like to approach it and I'll run it past Rob. We might be able to develop a prototype that can be extended to the other model sub-forums, who knows?

I will say this. I can't do it alone, it's a ton of work and I'd need several of you guys to lend a hand providing the research into threads or links that are on target for the project, but if you're willing to put in the time, so am I. Alberto, Dave,
I spent alot of time over the years searching and reading posts on various Dino issues and boiled it down to a live list of links I maintained up until a year ago. Sorry, it's not well sorted and I'll email it to Dave as it's too long to post, I put a few examples below.
I think a live list of indexed links could be maintained, sorted into sections? This might work better than a thread with the links which are updated in newer posts.
Alternatively, someone could follow the links and pull/reformat/summarize the information.

    Regards, Andrew

edit: some external links in there too, for example Rob and Pauls' excellent blog.

oh man, that could be an interesting sort.

Do you guys think a thread, with a fresh post for each item with links to threads is the way to go?

How about we experiment with it in here a bit before we roll anything out. I'd also suggest (I'll have to check with Rob first) that the thread be locked, and some kind of submission arrangement be made where it gets sent to me or one of you for review, then gets posted into the thread if appropriate.

    Dave -

I am glad you are back from wherever they sent you - I just hope the drugs will work better this time. ;)

Anyway, there are some things that seem more awkward with the new set up than the need to be. I will PM you about those matters separately.

With Respect to Corbani's Corner - I respectfully request that as it is now that it not be messed with - BUT, perhaps there could be a way to make an additional modified version without losing the original? Is that something that you were considering, or am I misreading your "and/or a lap around Corbani's Corner" comment? [I miss him, and I feel sorry for those who never had the opportunity to communicate with him or his wife, Candi]. Every once and a while I look up his obituary that appeared in the NY Times, and I am always surprised by the enthusiasm he showed for all things Dino, and the fact that he bothered to "hang" with us in this little part of the world. His final posts, and the things that Mike Rambour (who used to post in here often before he sold his Fiat Dino) did to help ease his path into the sunset, were poignant and still bring tears to my eyes.

What a wonderful idea Alberto, I have always wondered how all the "dinoland" knowledge and experience could be channelled far better. I fear one downside as you rightly intimate, all engineers have different methods of doing things and may not agree, for instance my method or the way I arrive at tuning carbs may differ slightly from others, but the end result, for me, is a well tuned car.

How about a directory or contents to organise legacy threads and or posts that match the original Dino parts manual, i.e. using the same TAV numbers and TITLES. Ideally each TAV headed with same image and parts numbers for reference. No substitute to a drawing and part number to refer to. Assuming there is no parts manual copy right issue that is.... parts manual would be better than the somewhat haphazard work shop manual.

The current search engine is ok, but authors do use differing terminologies to describe the subject of the thread/post and may not be natural word choice for searchers...

As I recall, the TAV's are not the same for early (L, M series) Dinos and later (E series), so that could be problematic. Otherwise, grouping by TAV would be a good approach.

And, remember fellas, KEEP IT SIMPLE.. anything that has a lot of twists and turns will not be kept current. Just look at the sources and uses thread. That's pretty simple, but no one has updated the comprehensive list in 8 years.
