Get out the big dollars - even has wax paper bag.
the fob is in a lorioli wax paper. to my knowledge, lorioli never made a dino fob. the fob looks to be the icor style fob. lorioli became the fob maker for ferrari in the mid-late seventies. ferrari lorioli fobs are not rare. i have to question wether this fob has been placed in lorioli wrapper and is an icor fob or if it is something else.
i have confrimed that the fob is, as i suspected, an icor fob. the lorioli wrapper is not correct for the icor fob. below is a scan of a icor fob in it's original wrapper, as well as the icor style fob. having, said that, i have been collecting fobs for awhile and haven't come across a lorioli wrapper. the lorioli fobs are fairly common and can be bought for around $30.00. let that be your judge as to the price of the lorioli wrapper. Well the guy just confirmed it is, indeed, and ICOR fob....fwiw. So obviously a mismatched set. Man, you guys are GOOD!
i can understand the guy not knowing for certain, but one has to question that statement when it has been pointed out to the seller that he is wrong. even if he doesn't believe he is, when was the last time you picked a ferrari part that had a porsche package? (and i don't need illustartions how this can be done by the manufacturers using the same parts- ie, it is cheaper to buya porsche "part", than a ferrari part, even though you take them out of the package and they are the same) these are two different companies. i don't someone at the factory placed the fob in a lorioli bag as the factory wasn't using lorioli in the dino "era". anyone bidding should bid based on the fob and not the "fob with original package" refernece.
Getting re-listed tomorrow. No further details from seller. [edit] turns out he realized the error on the bag and is going to re-list it, without the bag. [edit]
it's back with a starting price of $1500. seems kinda high considering the recent sales. the wax bag started at $.01, i will be very interested to see what this sells for.
i don't believe the owner is a scammer. what he has is real. i think his intentions are sincere. i respect the fact that he took down the original auction and relisted it. i believe what he says about it having "come" that way. i simply can't see someone making that up. i think somewhere before the car reached him the bag was changed. or another possibility is that his memory of such items has failed him. i have to tell you that i couldn't tell you about meaningless details from last year, much less 30 years ago. however, in 1974, icor wasn't supplying fobs to ferrari. they had changed to omea. this fob is an icor fob. it seems very unlikely that anyone would place an icor fob in a manufacturers package that was two manufacturers down the line. does anyone know when ferrari started using omea? does anyone know for certain when the lorioli fob was "introduced"?
I can nearly guarentee Ferrari(almost) Dino Key Fobs and wrappers remain a meaningless detail, to the majority of the human race.
BUT... We still all seem to want one!!! Oh, very nice replica available from Ferrair UK for about $26.00 Looks a lot like this one, (courtesy wspeer's prior post) but probably not exactly the same. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
By ending the auction early, the seller demonstrates he truly does not understand how Ebay works and risks possibly frustrating some bidders. By re-starting the auction at $1500.00 he further demonstrates his ignorance and places a feeling of the buyer-against-the seller. For desireable items, the absolute best outcome for the seller is to get two bidders into a bidder-against-bidder bidding war. The seller should be trying to get full commital by two bidders. Items submitted the second time, typically do not achieve the same bidding levels because the bidders might not feel the same level of commitment.
Quite possibly so, but I don't recall seeing the renowned Irishman ending an auction early and then re-starting "at a level that I was getting offers for before I ended the auction". I think a more effective way of getting high bids would be to alert nunzio (and other high bidders) that the item was up for auction and fuel the fire that way...
dave, your fob is upside down. this is the repro fob that has been around for years and what i use on my personal car. it is a good fob, but none-the-less a repro. i am amazed the fob tom sold went for what it did. notice the next two fobs didn't. i think $1500 is a ridiculous amount for a fob. having said that, where else are you going to go to buy one. i bought my first one on ebay about three years ago. it is near perfect and an icor fob, like the auction. i paid $400. i know the market has changed, but i can't believe by that much.
dave, after looking at your keys, you don't have a neiman key. anyone want to start talking about those?
