It looks exactly the same as mine. But of course, I'm not sure if mine is genuine.
Judging by the patina, it probably is....however, these came in a little celophane envelope with the OEM vendors' name on it I believe. Mint Key fobs with the envelope are probably preferred (as collector items, or pieces used to 'round-out a set of documentation in support of concourse judging a car) versus a rather beat-up item like this. Is this item worth $800+? I dunno.....the auctioneer makes no definite claims to its originality (the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free card), so if $800 was a LOT of money to you, I wouldn't bid on it.....you would probably find better examples for sale at Annual Meet Mercado/swap meets, I would guess......I understand that these key fobs came standard-issue with the car's wallet of owner's manual/warranty card documentation, so anyone with a Dino who wants to 'show' it would probably consider this item a must-have.
Actually, you don't need an FOB to get concours points. It's not a deduction if you don't have one. Based on what I've learned, it could only make a difference if your car is tied in every other way with another car or cars. Platinum rules do not have a requirement for original books or pouch contents, good reprints are acceptable. That being the case, I would think a good repro would be ok, too. I questioned the judge and was told that not having a FOB was not a deduction. DM
the seller is an honest guy that isn't trying to b.s. anyone. without seeing the fob in person, it is hard to say with all certainty, but from what i see, the fob looks real to me.
The seller is Peter Sweeney at Forza Motorsports. In my dealings with him I have always found him to be an honest person.
I still have the replica ones if anyone is interested. I just haven't had time to post them for sale. I believe the one on auction is the real deal because the replica ones wear differently because of brass content. The replicas were spec'd to be all brass but I have my doubts.
