Dino on Ebay

This car was on Ebay for 10 days and didn't crack 100k. What's the realistic price as of today? "excellent condition" and "turnkey" according to seller.

hmmmm...... not listening to the sales pitch, the car was deliverd by hollywood sports cars in feb 1972. it was an original red/black car.....

that doesn't address the price issue, but the reserve wasn't met.

i think we are going to see a long time period go buy before we see real sellers and real buyers agree on the market price. i think this is a case of exactly this problem

 

A buyer determines the value of a car, if it's for sale (a car not for sale has a value assigned by the owner only).

The buyer says its a $97k car.

 

I have an affinity for this particular car with VIN 3000. I own 3002.

Maybe I am wrong but that serial # seems very high to me. I have #1832 and it was built in May 1971...so approx 1200 cars were built in 6 mos? My car is a euro so maybe the #s were not sequential. However, 1200 cars in 6 mos & approx 4 year run (1971-74) would equal 4800? Maybe they built more in the early years. I have noticed that the throttle advance mechanism looks the same as the one I have on my '74 US version. Possibly it is the smog control for the US? In any case it looks like a nice car & if you could buy it for sub $100k that seems pretty nice to me. Remember that whole "cars are investments" hype was merely a ruse for guys to get their wives to agree to them paying an astronomical amount for a toy!

 

Street cars even #s only. So maybe 600 in 6 months.

I can assure you that the serial number is correct together with all of the components on the car. The history of #03000 is well known and documented. Yes, the car is beautiful and amazing to drive, but no, it cannot be had for under $100K.

 

I believe that the even serial numbers (not odd) were reserved for comp Ferraris. I believe this is not true of Dinos, witness this example.

I may be wrong but I think I'm right. I believe the Dinos were treated differently.

 

Street Dinos are all even numbered.

My car 2840 was built in late 1971. So 3000 in Feb '72 is about right.

 

So they were all given "lucky" numbers. And your car was the next on the line.

 

Having just sold a 246gt I can say your price is pretty fair. Mine sold for significantly less, but needed some non critical repair. If I take my price and add the repairs it would be slightly over $100K... However, that being said, I think you may not sell it for more than $100K, as the buyers have become exceedingly scarce. You may just have to hold on to it for a few years, or get really lucky with a buyer. Time is your enemy... the longer you wait to sell, the worse it's going to be, in the short term. In the longer term, it's fair to speculate a recovery to 2007 prices.

lol... and the high bid right now is $200... this would be a serious labour of love.

 

$200 now but $65,000.00 before he cancelled the auction. Look at the bidding history. Since the seller stated the reserve was $62,500.00 he probably ended it early to sell off line and avoid the Ebay fees.
