Im not sure what is happening with the group buy on the rear bezels, I have been in need of 2 pairs for 4 years. I found a man that is going to make them out of the same plastic using a pair of mine I sent him for samples, they should be exact copies. It should be a month or so and they will be available thru Ferrari Parts Exchange (Lyle Tanner).
I'm working on getting them machined from aluminum bar stock and polished to a chrome-like finish. I've had one prototype made and should have it back from a round of minor "adjustments" at the end of this week. Should look and fit exactly like the originals. I'll post pix when it's ready. I'll also know the cost for various quantities by then so I can get a feel for what the demand will be here on FChat Bill
Tony Covelli @ squadranuvolari.com is the person that will have the exact ones avaliable in a month, he says that he makes parts for Ferrari, these will be with the lens and made of the same plastic with the same markings!
Michael, that's great news. Do you have any details on the process that will be used to "plastic-chrome" the parts? Any idea of what pricing will be through Ferrari Parts Exchange? Bill
Bill Tony at squadra nuvolari has given me a picture and price to post, can you tell me how to post a picture. Take Care Michael
Just got photo of Dino assemblies (attached) Spoke with Tony Covelli at Squadra Nuvolar 619.544.9450 they are producing 40 sets. Cost is 395.00 per set. Remarkably this price is about the same as the last list price...in early 2003. They manufacture directly for Ferrari I'm sure the quality is superb. I ordered 2 sets should receive them shortly.....EXCITING! Oh yeah the picture shows all the pieces that make up the assembly.....the bezels are shown prior the the chroming.....Quite a process for such a small part! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Brian, You might want to check with the supplier . . . as with the originals, the reflectors must have a threaded mounting stud imbedded in the red plastic which then passes through the bezel and through the mounting hole in the Dino's sheet metal. Maybe he just hasn't shown that in these pictures. Also the bezel must have an alignment stud (plastic or metal, threaded or unthreaded, makes no difference) to keep the assembly from rotating due to vibration. Btw, the aluminum prototypes I'm working on will not come with reflectors. Use what you've got. Bill
I took a close look at the pictures, I think his lens mold is setup to take a threaded steel insert, he just made the test parts w/o an insert & the plastic filled the mold's insert hole. I do that when testing a mold. However, I think Bill's right, it looks like those bezels are lying too flat too have the rear tab. What gives, $395/set & people suddenly seem happy with the price??? 18 months ago I proposed Chrome'd Aluminum Bezels at an estimated $200-$250/pair & couldn't get enough interest to get a mfg run going.
Verell, Actually, the response seems somewhat underwhelming . . . one order for two sets! I hope to have my prototypes this week. Bill
Brian, Progress on the machined aluminum bezels I've been working on is very slow. I've given up on the guy who did the first prototype. He was too busy to make small corrections and do the opposite side protoype. I suspect the wait for a production quantity would be unpredictable. So I've gone to a mil spec production shop for another quote. I hope to meet with them on Wed. Have you received your new plastic set? If so, how do they look/fit? If not, what's the plan? Bill
