Not quite ready to start on my Black 73 GT yet, but I am narrowing down the colors. I had the paint shop do 3 spray outs for me. Azzurro, Grigio Fero and Viola, all metallics. Grigio Fero is very close to my 430 which is Silverstone, very conservative. Azzurro, a very pretty color and SAFE. Viola Metallizato, totally wild, you either hate it or like it, nothing in between, definitely on the edge. The car is going to the body shop in about 2 weeks because they want to check all the gaps etc before I take it apart and make any necessary changes now. I also have to decide totally stock as from the factory or minor changes such as getting rid of USA sidelights etc.

    Jon,
I vote Viola. the 430 is very, very conservative. The Porshe is In Your Face Green, the GTS Dino is a very lovely blue, a GT Dino in Viola will stop traffic. A perfect quartet.

Purple cars are a little out there. Your blue one is a good, strong, vibrant color. It would clash with the viola in the garage. I vote for Ferro or Azurra, but I think a good, deep metallic grey, perhaps with tan/crema upholstery would be mindbogglingly beautiful. If I ever paint my Dino, that's what it will be!

I think the Viola would look great with a tan interior.

Then again I also like that Prugna 308. :)

The Azzurro would be very nice with a red interior.

Remember Viola was the color on the 206 prototype which started all of our madness.

Then it would be very appropriate. I vote Viola, with the French lighting that you used in the GTS.

The purple is growing on me. The first Dino I ever saw was purple... In San Diego (Encinitas) coincidentally.... Back in the 70s baby! ;)

All 3 options are nice on a 246.
    - Viola looks like "I am from the 70ties" and the Dino can wear such a cry. (no way on a F360)
    - Under regular conditions Azzuro would be my first choice. Here I vote for Viola. (like Pininfarina for the prototipo)
    - Consider Grigio / Silver for understatement cars. On a little fancy V6 you can dare more flashy colours - like Viola!

    my 3 cents

Jon your paint shop has to pay attention to the colors. All 3 are "modern" metallic colors which means in my mind, that the metallic parts in it are to big. In former times you didn't see these parts, they were very small. Esp. Azzurro is souch a color. We did a lot of testing with two color manufacturers to find out the correct mix.

    grigio.

I just can't wrap myself around that purple. the lighter colors don't accent the curves of the car enough, at least the ones I've seen.

I also agree that you want less metal in the paint. The newer finishes has much more flake than the metallics from the 70's.

In all honesty, I think there are other colors that you have posted on the Dino colors thread that you should have sprayed onto your sample molds. I'd really love to see you consider Rosso Rubino Metallizato. I think that color or Rosso Fiorano would be stunning. I know a lot of people get sick of the rosso/tan combination, but on a car that would be as well rebuilt as your first Dino, I think one of those colors would be beautiful.

Fly yellow looks great on a Dino I just want to do something not as common. It seems most Dino's have been repainted to either red or yellow for obvious reasons (they look great in those colors)
