Hey, Does anyone have a source for the chrome / stainless strip that runs alongs the window edge on the exterior side of the door? I have a Spyder but I can probably make it work.

Jon, Photos so much better! A few things more: Force flash to fire when you have backlight. Auto exposure can only do so much. If you forget, the editor can help if it can change the contrast curve from highlights to shadows. I figured there was more in the backlit pictures than I could see so copied the pictures to my computer. Raised up the midrange a lot. Then increased overall contrast to favor the motor only. Attached are the two shots after rework. Interesting to see that your motor mounts do not agree with the book. Just like mine don't either. Your heat shield is different from mine. I only have lower half but it goes higher than yours. Top edge of mine goes across just under oil separator bracket, about 1" below throttle rod. My GT is 1972, #04504. Seems like they are all individuals. Keep 'em coming, John Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I took the last of the parts that would come off today. Just a few misc. items. The big question now is-----I gone this far, why not remove the fiberglass. I used to make surfboards in high school so I am sure I could reglass those parts back in. It looks like the inner fenders would have to be cut because it looks like the flare rolls over it. It looks like the tub could be cut from door to door along the factory seam and slipped out in 2 pieces. Any comments would be appreciated. "Press for emergency engine starting". I don't think I've ever seen this on my car. Where in the car did that come from?
MArk. Haven't been paying close attention to this thread. Can you post a picture of the part in question? Dave
Not all 246s have the emergency engine starting button. Mine doesn't, although I recently saw one on a 246GTS at Alfa of Tacoma. I was surprised when I saw it and I forgot to ask Carlo about it. I have never seen anything on the Dino Register about that change. Also, does anyone know when the change was made from 2 to 3 dash vents? I don't recall anything on the Dino Register about that either. The only 2 vent cars I have seen also had the center clapping windshield wipers, but I am not sure that all center clapping wiper cars had only 2 vents. Mark Nerheim
My 72 US spec GT does not have it. I have seen it on two '74 GTS cars only. 2 vent cars= no a/c 3 vent cars=a/c I think dm
Quote DM "I have seen it on two '74 GTS cars only". Not on my 74 GTs do you think it's a US thing only?
Regarding the idea of removing the fiberglass: if you did this, wouldn't you need to build a jig for the car to stop the chassis from getting out of shape. I'm not sure if the fiberglass just acts as a seating compartment or if it adds to the rigidity of the car but I would make sure you get some guidance on this issue before you take that ambitious last step. It sure has been fun watch the disassembly. It makes me remember my Dino "project" - glad it is behind me. Cheers...Keith
For rear innerfenders, just push them up and in and they will get out of the car. Floor and footwells can be removed, but hard work. Floor, very tight to get the plastic out thru the door- put it back BEFORE paint. Footwell, I needed to cut it in two pieces- I did the cut in pedal area, no problem to use glasfibre when back in place. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Another adventurous project, way over my abilities. . . . Any other photos of your project? I'm not suggesting that they should be generally included within Jon's thread, but it might be helpful to see a few photos that you have that illustrate some other issues that Jon might not have covered yet (but it is hard to imagine what he has missed so far). Also, is your Dino finished, or still in rebuild? Mark Nerheim
Jeff and Jon - (Son, Father Team) - thanks a million for your help with installing my wiring harness. I believe it went quite smoothly with the extra hands. I now attack cutting and crimping at the correct length, but it appears that everything is where it belongs. Let me know when I can be of help down in San Diego. Jim S.
We had a great time at Jim's. It is going to be a super nice car when he finishes. Today we got our car on the rotisserie. I think I am going to tackle the fiberglass, we'll see. Wow. Thank you very much for sharing your adventure with us. It is great to watch a project come apart and go back together so perfectly.Great pics!
We hope things are going to go back perfectly. Today we decided to take out the inner fender. Much easier than I thought. There were a couple of sheet metal pieces that held it in and a few rivets. I did have to cut a small piece of the fiberglass to get it out. Jon - Perhaps I should start over and remove the wheel wells? One can do a much better job of eliminating rust, etc., with those fiberglass wells out. Good job. Your rotisserie works great - It does appear that you have a continuous adjustment for finding the center of gravity. The long screw should do it. Of interest is the minor difference in structural frame between the coupe and Spyder. The only difference I can identify is the flat steel sheets at the forward aspect of the floor pan where the rocker panels angle inward. I have alway heard that the Spyder had additional structural support to prevent flexing - not much difference. Looks great. Jim S.
We don't get it, we do all this work and than put it on the rotisserie??? Image Unavailable, Please Login
