Hi, Gents......dunno why I stumbled into this thread but we are chatting "blues " with Alex Leventhal on his 365 Boxer.... my 1977 308GTB I was using as sample for his carpet...it is blue interior and Factory has confirmed it as AZZURO DINO 5898349 (20-A-349)

Glad to see it in the recap above.

It's a lighter blue than you would think though in direct sunlight, but beautiful on the lines of the car.

A has posted pics in the 365BB for sale SOLD thread............

Are the calipers being plated yellow cad or silver cad.

If you're painting the car blue, many painters will shoot a test color on a slap of sheet metal for your approval. Are you painting it or having someone else do it?

I'm going to do the calipers silver cad, probably with "DINO" script on them just to be different. I'm not doing the painting. Hot rods and custom stuff in Escondido. There only a couple of blocks from my hobby shop, so it will easy to keep an eye on things. It's going to them in about 1 week. I'm making sure all the fiberglass pieces will slip back in easily before I send it to them.

I like the gold and was going to do some stuff gold, but no one in San Diego does the Gold cad anymore. I guess to many gov. inspectors snooping around. So I had to do cad that looks light silver.

Jon, there is a company in the UK called Frost who do home plating kits. I have one of there bright zinc kits and have had good results with it. As usual, everything is in the preparation. I don't know if they do overseas shipping but probably do. They are at www.frost.co.uk, check under the electroplating tab. The kit for the gold is a gold passivate kit if I remember,

I like that color. I thought blue dino met. was darker though. I'm going to do light tan interior. Daytona seats with no sripes, I think. You do have to see blues in person because they can look so different.

Here's a shade of blue that I've not seen before. It's on Scott Jared Oshry's (A.K.A. "soshry") elegant 365 GT 2+2. He calls it "98% TDF blue." See his 08-22-2006 10:00 A.M. post, below.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=136018206#post136018206

Also note that the interior of Scott's Queen is light tan; is that the color choice you mentioned?
If this combo has potential, perhaps an up-close-&-personal viewing might be arranged. It looks like he's just up the '5' from you.

Al kindly posted this link for plating kits in the U.K. I would like to purchase one. Can anyone help in my lack of knowledge with these units, How do you prevent the coating of certain parts i.e. i wish to plate the calipers but am not sure how to prevent the piston housings from being subjected to the treatment. Any ideas?
    Regards G.P.

    Jon,

Take a look at the red GTS.
    www.cumminscars.com

That color is about the same color that I painted my old Alfa Sprint Speciale and is striking. Blood red! Add it to your collection. Looks great on a Dino. Brings out the curves just as well as dark blue. Explodes in the sun.

It looks good but I'm leaning towards Dino Blue Metallic, a medium blue. Just trying to get a swatch so I can decide. The car went to the body/paint shop today. Hot Rods and Custom Stuff in Escondido, Ca.

Omgjon, you sent me a private message some time ago, saying you liked the color of my car - I had posted a photo of my blue 246GT in my workshop. The color is Dino Blue Metallic. I took delivery of the car in the evening (delivered by flatbed from the port) and we cleaned and waxed it in the workshop. When finally I took it out for a drive and parked it outside, we were so surprised at how different the color looked in daylight. My point is that the color looks different - sometimes brighter, sometimes deeper - depending on the light, so it's difficult to keep comparing different cars, specialy in photos. I like the color very much. Good luck.

Back from Utah bicycling and getting Jeff back up to college. On my own for awhile. I got my brake parts back from the cad plater and the rebuild kits came. Just have to put these back together now. A guy on Fchat has an original color chip of Blue Dino Metallic and had it matched with a glasurit color. I should have a test panel next week. He just painted his beautiful BB in that color. It could be the one.

    Jon,

Plated parts and the photos thereof look great. Could you tell us what the specs of the plating were? e.g. cleaning, cad thickness, additional treatment. And the name of the shop, again.

    Thanks, John

I cleaned the parts and then had them white cad plated. The springs were nickel plated. When I picked them up there was some staining on the calipers, they "flash" nickel plated the calipers while I waited. I was told it adds 1/1000 ". I took very fine emory cloth to make sure there was no cad plating where the pistons go. I had them done at North County Plating, in Escondido, Ca. The flash nickel put a little bit of shine on the calipers.

That fine metallic will pick up different colours flickering off the light. As you say, even the time of day can change the appearance of the colour.
