Great thread, great work! What's that casting in the bottom center of the second to last photo in post 1013?
I've been a little amiss lately in posting. But I haven't done much. I was driving the miura and the front carbs caught on fire. No damage as I got it out quick (minor damage). So I've been rebuilding the carbs as I'm still waiting for pistons from GT Parts. But what a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First I go to the bank and see a carrera GT Then follow the tow truck down to Bobileffs to have the correct front lites put on the Miura and see 14 Miura's in various states of restoration then while driving over to Symbolic only a mile away this guy on a motorcycle passes me. Then I see my #1 all time favorite car and it's for SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Then I went and checked on the dino and it has moved into the paint booth. Life can't get any better than today. I'm not sure, last time I was there they had two 206's. Next time I swing by I'll check the #. Come on Speer, you need to step up to the plate on this one. I know you have 1 empty space in that never ending garage of yours.
now that is funny, i have so many cars "conviently" out for repair, that i have garage space for what is at my home. sadly, i have to get the two extra lifts installed ASAP. in fact, i spent tonight changing car positions. well, i was doing that at least until the mercedes 280sl wouldn't start up after moving it. gggrrrrrr........ as of now, i got it started and back in the garage. what i need is what you have, an storage/repair/play garage.
Jon: Do you have the air filter covers on your Miura? Can you explain what happened? I had a float sink, although fortunately it was in my driveway and I was trying to start the car. By the way, I have extra headlight buckets if you need them for the Miura. You can pm me or e-mail me directly if you prefer to keep this off this thread. Thanks. Alberto
I picked up from the powder coater the alternative air filters. I like these because you can see the engine much better. I know. I should use the stock ones. I have refurbished those also so it's always an option. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are Lynx from Australia. The come chrome, I had them powder coated then my frind Mark who's restoring his Maserati Merak but won't share photos yet, made the dino badges that are going on all three air cleaners.
Jon, Re pics of your car in primer, the doors look to be aligned perfectly. I was told that they should sit up at the back approximately 5 mm to counter the fact that when the glass, electric motor etc are fitted this then pulls the backs down and into line. Do you or anybody else on here have any comment?knowledge of this theory? ( by the way i was told this by Nick Cartwright our Dino guru on this side of the water ) Regards, G P
They do sit up high. The door hardware is in so when the pin goes into the rubber part in bring it down. I had asked previously if the weight would bring them down because they did rise up at the rear. They put the hardware on so the could make sure all the seams were equal spaced.
Last day of working for 10 day, off to Park City for skiing. Today Worked on cooling system (fans), and gearshift box. The body is already for paint. The shop is going to wait till I get back to put the color on. It feels like it's all coming together except for the engine. Still waiting for pistons from GT Parts. It seems strange that you are using original pistons when there are so many suppliers who provide modern forged slugs with modern high quality ring sets. You may have to wait 5 weeks but it sure beats having to wait for Bill at GT Car Parts.
Not using originals. They are made in Calif. Bill at Gt ordered a bunch of pistons and has received most of his order but not mine yet.
I was thinking about doing a time lapse video when I start putting the car back together. Does anyone know how to go about this. I think it would be pretty cool to compress the time it takes into a short video. I suppose I could edit out all my NUMEROUS mistakes. I would make it available to all. I'm sure someone here knows how to do it. I would want good quality or there would be no sense to do it. Back to work Monday after a week of skiing.
Jon, Great idea. Folks who do animation have the equipment. I believe it is fairly simple. You need to keep camera fixed for days if necessary and keep a computer with it. Pictures can be taken at fixed intervals or on command. A laptop and a higher end web camera should be able to do a credible job. Don't know where you get the software but bet someone on Fchat does. Will be good to have you back. Show us some ski pictures. John
