Back to work tomorrow. The paint shop said they wanted to paint this week. That's my first stop tomorrow morning. Also started the new stable for the Dino.

Here are some links to intervalometers for your camera.
Tobin and NCS are reasonably priced.

16mm is probably the way to go. 8mm is tedious and limited resources. 35mm is way expensive.

You may want to read this as to why film is the way to go: http://www.gethincoles.com/time-lapse.html

There may be digital solutions also, perhaps someone will chime in.

    Hi Jon,

I am enjoying following the Dino Restoration along with everybody else and can't wait to see the paint, but would be interested to see the some of the garage build as well, don't be sorry!

    Jon,
Apples can do this with any compatable video camera. Apple software does the whole thing. There are lots of other ways to go but Apple has the whole package. I believe that film is way more grief than it is worth for the DVD that you are contemplating. Digital video has all the quality you will be able to see on a TV. HDTV or regular TV. Search "time lapse video" on Google. You will get more info than you want and also samples of all kinds and qualities of finished videos.

I think my kid's high end digital video camera has a time lapse setting. Variable as I recall from multiple frames per second to a few frames a minute.

Might not be quite as slick as the old fashioned 16mm, but is a hell of a lot easier to edit.

I'll call my son (camera is in the closet here) and see if I'm correct.

    Dave

Thanks for the help with the time lapse. Hopefully I can find something that would be easy as I really can only do the basics with the computer. Anyway good to be back from skiing and back to work. I worked on putting the gear shift back together. You need four hands to do this as the springs require two hands to compress and then the other two to install the circlip. As I was screwing the chrome gate on the screw broke. Now I have to find a 5mm tap and a new screw so that project didn't get finished. FINALLY some blue in the door jambs, I really liked the color. They now have to do an emergency job on somebody's hot rod so mine is getting pushed to mid next week.

    Jon,
Dave has the right idea. Google "digital video camera time lapse" and you find out that most digital video cameras have a time lapse mode. Should be easy to get the raw footage and then edit it down. Time to visit a camera store and get a demo. Looks like the car painters are getting serious. And so are the guys with the back hoes. You are going to have a lot on your plate this summer.

Finished the gear selector except for the broken screw I have to take care of. The next project is the horn, window wipers and washer. I've almost finished the Miura carbs in between working on the Dino. Twelve cylinders, twice the work. The Dino is supposed to be painted Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. They're going to give me a two hour notice before it goes into the paint booth for photos.

Merak's have a lot of parts packed into a small engine compartment, I looked at them before I bought my Bora 19 years ago (and I still have the Bora). The density is amazing but Mark is probably too preoccupied to post photos - to access a single part may be quite involved and require removing many others, working inverted, or understanding French braking systems...

omgjon, I have been working on the restoration of my 72 Dino over the past few years and the resources have been slim for much of the chassis/body. Your pictures have been very timely as I am in the process of attaching new rocker panels. Fit of the new pieces has been challenging but your pics have helped to get things right. Much appreciated. A couple questions, if I may? What do the seats bolt up to...just the fiberglass? The seats were removed from my car before I got it and it just seems nuts that they would just be fastened to fiberglass.

I can see that your rockers extend under the frame tubes, do they get riveted or welded to the frame tubes along the lower part of the tubes? And, does the large under panel pop-rivet to just the lower edge of the rocker panels? Any help is much appreciated.

Based on the construction of your frame and some others that I have seen, I am amazed at the differences in tubes (round vs rectangular) at the front of the car. Maybe it's just the difference between spiders and GTs.

Maybe this has been mentioned before and I hope I am not offending anyone, but there are few items that you have replaced parts on your car that the "take off" would be a major find for me. I have been trying to get one headlamp bucket and the retaining ring and an electrical harness for some time. My car was hit on the left side and wiped out both of these parts.

Keep up the good work...an amazing restoration. Your thread has inspired me to get moving on my restoration; and helped solve some of my assembly issues.

    JE

The seats are attached to the fibergass. That area is reinforced. As you can see by the photos they do not attached to the frame. The rocker panels are riveted to the frame with the large bottom panel sandwiched between the frame and rocker panel. The bottom panel is riveted to all the frame members. I can help out with some parts just PM me. Good luck, we need photos!

    Jon,

I know you were thinking about having your steering wheel recovered... I am not sure if you ever did this but it looks like you can buy a new repro wheel exactly like your original at the following site:

    http://www.superformance.co.uk/a-308/accessories.htm

    I hope this helps.

I re-packed my windshield wiper worm gearing because I found the old grease had dried, yellowed and hardened. I used Mobil one red synthetic grease, really like that stuff.
    How was yours?
You have two of them and they are the assemblies under the black caps with four screws located on the left side in your image and on the top center.

    jon.

what am i missing on the construction photo's? in the shot they are using chalk to draw the beam configeruation, all vegetation has been cleared. the photo showing the beams being dug, the "main structure (house)" is visable, but the garage or dino living area that is shown in the chalked photos is gone and vegetation is back. in the form photo's once again it looks to support the second photo, but not the chalk photo. is there something that , based on angles and location, i am missing?

by the way, they blue looks great, what color did you settle on?

The previous photo doesn't show all. The detached "Ferrari Garage" is not trenched yet as they have to build a wall behind it that they have to do first. The color on the Dino is the stock color "Dino blue metallic". Supposedly getting painted this week.
