Did you bleed the brakes yet? I am curious how many times around the car at each caliper it takes to get a full bleed on an empty system.

Where did you get the insulation from? Is it available in different thickness?

Omgjon, progress looks outstanding. I'm creating an assembly file based on your pictures...as I bet most everyone else is.
Could you please provide some better shots for the air horns and pump showing the attachment locations.
Also, I understand that the seat tracks mount to the fiberglass floor. When do they get installed, and what type of fasteners are used?
Thanks for the help and keep up the good work!
    Jeff

Jon, things are looking really good. So many times I have dug into my Dino while laying on my back in the middle of the parking lot. In the winter. That rotisserie is just magic. Your "if I knew then what I know now" notebook is going to be a masterpiece. The pictures are marvelous and so is the commentary. I have to get down to San Diego one of these days and see the real thing. Keep up the good work.

Santa Barbara is not that far away. Lots of curvy Dino roads down here.

    OMG!

I just spent my entire morning poking thru this thread, how the heck did I miss this??

    I am still in awwwwwwwwww.

Great work....one question, when is the FCA gonna organize a small drive to view this beautiful work of art when it is complete?

Once again, fantastic thread! I don't know what else to say, except I am gonna go thru the thread again to see what I missed...

    OMGJON,
Thanks for the great detail shots. Since I got my car in parts, these pictures clarify a great deal; like what the heck is this bracket for XX##$$%.

That Dino will definetly start, no doubt....

Question: Do you test every thing as you install it?

Awesome!!! If you weren't going to drive it, what would really be the point of going through all that effort to make everything work? Can't wait to see/hear it.

Are you on holidays, or do you not have to work for a living? ;)

There is no way I could get that much done everyday without not sleeping!

jon - the foam you are using for insulation/sound deadening; does it have any weight advantage or is it just the same that they used when the car was made or something you found?? Just curious, and great thread. I love build threads!! :)

    OMG,

Superb workmanship and outstanding photos! Been watching and enjoying for several months . . . thanks for the knowledge you're imparting to us Dino lovers/owners. Your quote above got my attention. I need one of those, too. Too many off-track excurions have left mine "wounded." Can you give me contact info on your vendor? This is the external, flush mounted, large metal piece that covers the entire center section under the car, right?

It should be much better than what the factory used. Jim Selevan recommened it. He knows way more than I do about Dino's.

It's just being made by a sheet metal guy down the street from me. It's aluminum with strength ribs in it like the original. I'll have it next week, I'll let you know. He's just making a pattern off the old one. My 73Gt has a fiberglass bottom panel totally smooth, no ribs. Not sure if it came this way. Anybody know?

My 72 246GT also has a smooth fiberglass undertray. However, it is a Euro model, so I don't know if the factory used a metal pan for USA cars. As I recall, the other Dinos I have seen at my restorers shop also had fiberglass 'belly pans'.

My 72 GT has a smooth fiberglass bellypan. Nut plates are imbeded in the glass. These are for the access plates below brake and throttle. The access plates themselves are steel with mild steel screws. My screws rusted in place so I drilled them out and re-tapped nut plates one size up. Used Stainless screws with Loctite and all is well.

An aluminum pan and a pair of aluminum access plates makes sense. 0.06-0.09" thick T6 should be lighter than the glass. And bending, not breaking is always good. Fab should be easy in any industrial sheet metal shop. Would recommend substantial nut plates or Dzus fasteners. Don't want to have them spin or pop out. Stainless fasteners would make sense.

Insulation looks good. Nice to know the beautiful horns work. Keep on rolling.

    John
