Seymour - yes, swapping would place a red small button as a side directional light. Apparently this is the original situation. The door edge light is also a small red button. I spoke with Tom S. today, and he confirmed this as well. The large amber button is used on Boxers, and other models.

I guess I won't be using the orange one. Where do we get door lights?

Jon - good question. You may have to use your door edge lights in the side position (directional light in front). Then, purchase reproduction button lights for the door edge. I am doing the homework.

    More to come.

I would suggest research in this area. I believe the department of transportation requires side running lights on the front and rear of all licensed motor vehicles and trailers. My dirt bike trailer and boat trailer have amber sidemarkers in the front and red in the rear.
The USA ferrari dino has amber in the front and red in the rear.
The EURO ferrari dino had amber in the front and nothing in the rear. This was not legal in the USA so the cars imported were DOT'd and rear marker lights were added. Not sure of the size regulation but I have noticed the EURO DOT cars used original USA markers or 308 markers. Just depends what was available.
The front EURO light appears to be the same light as the door except it has an amber lense. It has a flat lense not a bubble.

DOT requires those items when the cars are sold new. The only regulations to worry about now are at the state level. Some states don't even have safety inspections. Generally there is no problem removing side marker lamps. Custom/Street Rod types do it all the time and refer to it as "shaving". Headlamp, Tailamps/Brake, and Turnsignals is all they check for.

Jon - you really do know how to hit below the belt! That is fantastic. I have been working for months to create my new one. Where did you get it? Would you private mail me with a price (or make public, either way). It really looks nice, with new relays and fuse boxes, etc. You really are doing it right.

I got it through Gt car parts who ordered it in Italy. Kind of pricey, around $5,000, but beautiful.

Jon, would you mind posting some pictures of the front frame members that support the radiator, fan motors, bonnet hinges and horns? Perhaps taken from a perspective above the brake booster. I think mine may have been modified and I would like restore them to original if they were. Thanks in advance. Again you have done us a great favor.

I am not trying to hi-jack the thread but i thought i would post shots of my 74 gts as i have just had the area you mention rebuilt due to badly repaired accident damage from years ago.

Please somebody take these shots and run them through an editing programme for me (Jon Corbarni are you there?) I don't post many photos because i recently bought a new camera (Sony cybershot) and it's crap at close up work (or is it me?).

As you can see i don't have the resources or facilities of Omgjon here, but hey ho i shall get there in the end!

Tell me does the steering hub come out before the dash or after??? I have both items out now but once my dash is recovered in my new but not wholly original mousehair i am going to crap myselfe trying to get said items back in without damage!

Worked on getting rear suspension off, brakes and half shafts. The half shafts have been the hardest thing to get off so far. It took a lot of penetrating oil and an impact wrench to get them off. When I start working on all the parts I will have pics of all elements of each part.
