    Hey, Mr. Trashy!!!

You need to chill out, you're letting good ol' grandmaster get under your skin.

Go sit by your lake and enjoy a nice glass of wine. You know, something that makes you nostalgic and yearn for the good old days when Dinos were $17K, gas was a buck and so was your favorite wine...

    Uro,

did you REALLY own a 1973 Chevy Vega?

If so, well, Grandmaster may have a point. :D

At least my Chevy Vega was a GT!!

FerrariChat has different sections for fans of different cars. You came to the Dino section to lambaste the Dino. I suggest you go to the V12 sections to enjoy the V12 content instead.

His profile shows his sense of humor. He has indeed owned a few exotics, including a Dino.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

It’s my daily driver. It could out run any of the Grandmaster’s silly Portofinos.

You gotta respect...Grandmaster is an asset here with his 4 posts per year.

I always get tickled when some folks here accuse me of being a redneck and think they got one over on me...

    Wait!!!

    You're a RedNeck???

But your user name, it provides no clue as to your true identity...

It does, however remind me of that really old joke.

What were the Red Neck's last words?

    Hey Bubba, watch this!!

    Geez, I crack me up.

and now let's return to our regularly scheduled abuse, er program.

Wow interesting and very entertaining thread!! I guess my view is you don’t buy an old Ferrari because it performs better or has all the accoutrements of the more modern Ferrari. I love my 328GTB and my Dino; the latter more so I must admit. If anyone says that it is not a pretty and sexy car, they are lying to you and probably can’t afford it. To me, the Dino enlivens all senses. She may not be the fastest or the car with more conveniences, but she is uncommon— seriously, how many have you seen in the wild lately? She is visceral and old school— you have to be able to drive a stick. You need to monitor the gauges. She won’t drive herself— but the reward, simply awesome.

I’ll have you know I own a Dino which is a REAL Ferrari.

So don’t call me ignorant and a wimp.

My Dino is beautiful and fabulous.

I would like to share with the community how important it is to do your due diligence when you buy a Ferrari even if it is a baby Ferrari.
One of my very good friends knew Ed Waterman from Motorcar Gallery very well so I thought he would be reputable.
I live in Massachusetts and the car was in California so I was not going risk flying out there during the middle of the Covid epidemic. I do not know anybody in California to inspect it. Ed told me if I did not buy it right then there were two people waiting right behind to snatch it up.
He told me that nothing was wrong with the car except it needed seat inserts and a new peg insert for the targa top. I bought my 1973 Dino 246GTS right then.

Unfortunately he by omitting 28 other things that it required immediately listed below:

    1) Engine noise when delivered, flat bedded to BSC
    2) Seats needed to be completely repaired
    3) Heater didn’t work
    4) Tach bounces all over needed MSD ignition
    5) Horn didn’t work
    6) Fuel line was dangerously leaking
    7) Windshield wipers didn’t work
    8) A/C didn’t work
    9) Window latch was off *
    10) Inside light on driver side didn’t work
    11) Vent cover left needs replacing
    12) Rug in trunk needs replacing
    13) Two broken snaps in trunk need replacing
    14) Plastic chrome right reflector needs replacing
    15) Liner on windshield is ripped and needs replacing
    16) 3 levers were hanging off and broken and needs a new bracket
    17) Wires are hanging all over under dashboard
    18) Ventilator fan in right front is noisy and needs replacing
    19) Speakers made holes in both interior side panels need replacing
    20) Stitching frayed and scratches on steering wheel need repair
    21) Material in window runners is frayed and ripped needs replacing
    22) Paint job bubbling off on engine cover and collected in many crevices
    23) Scrape on passenger door inserts
    24) Scrape on right side pocket
    25) Rust and particles on bumpers needs to be rechromed
    26) Dents in both bumper end plates
    27) Driver door doesn’t close flush
    28) Heater didn’t work and dropped antifreeze all over my driveway

    * It’s a Dino

Admittedly some of the items on the list are very inexpensive but many certainly are not!! It was my mistake by not doing my own due diligence when buying such a very expensive car and I know not to trust anybody, but I chose to buy a car from a reputable dealer where expecting due diligence shouldn’t be necessary.

Requesting the right photos/videos would have revealed 99% of this stuff.

Things like seats, carpets, steering wheel, etc seem like may be normal wear for a 50 year old car unless this was presented as a fresh/complete restoration.

Do a PPI now and consider the purchase and shipping merely a way to do your PPI. After the PPI if still not satisfied with the amount of repair notify the dealer to return the car. If he is a reputable dealer as you say he should take the car back, minus and cost to ship to you!! Option 2 keep it and learn from it that a PPI is necessary on all purchases even if the car is in your neighborhood!
