This is the last week of March 2008, and i know of at least 8+ solid Dino sales in the last three weeks in the USA - at values in the general market perception. I don't think this indicates a strong market, nor do I want to pretend to push a market, but Dino's ARE moving.

We can debate the value/price/condition of the Dino market all day long, and frankly, I have fun doing so, but I have a question, why hasn't this car moved yet? It seems to be a great car, I know I am missing something, what is it?

I have seen the car in person. It is only a few feet from our store. Pretty nice and the color is beautiful. I think the car is offered at $189K so should be close to current market price and a nice deal for someone.

Earlier this month we had a beautiful 73 GTS in Burgundy that went for $175K to a local buyer. I thought the car was well bought.

We just got a beautiful restored pure Euro 246 GT coupe out of US customs. I am hoping to have it photographed and ready for PPIs early next week Asking price will be $189K. Probably a little high in the price range but you could not restore a similar car for anywhere near that price.

We are currently restoring from the frame up a GTS for a long-term owner. I believe he has budgeted nearly $200K for the entire job. I see the car often when I visit the work shop and cannot believe how complicated the assembly and construction of such a small and beautiful car could be.

    Cheers,

    Bill Noon

Very strange car, can't be 02538, seems to be a late Euro E-series, german delievery. The VIN is just fantasy, nothing more.

By the way: the taillights are original from "Opel Manta series A" - sorry for that, but it's true. You guys in the States won't know that car, it was great in it's time. These taillights are a great story ...

Bill - I suspect that someone other than Antonio at the factory stamped the chassis number. The font does not look correct and it is not situated in the correct position. Furthermore, the chassis number may be set-off by a STAR * (preceeding and following), but I have never seen a Zero.

After DM's sale of the 246 GT coupe to URO, I was wondering if the GT models have made gains on the GTS? In the past there has been around $50k spread, but hasn't the GTS been seemingly hard to crest the $200k barrier?
    ... any opinions?

Yes, but look at all of the new friends that you made!

My first car was a Manta (actually my 1972 was called the 1900, Manta the next year), fond memories, and yes those tail lights do look the same.

for the longest time, the gt was always about $10k less than the gts. given the current price changes, i would think if that line of thought continued, the gt is undervalued compared to the gts. frankly, there have been fewer gt's come up for sale compared to gts's - which is odd given how many more gt's exist than gts's. i think in the end, there won't be much of a spread between the gt and the gts, but we aren't there yet.

A '74 Manta took me thru med school and residency and was a great driving car. The steering response was the best of any car ever I've driven and on snowy Chicago-area streets you could hang the tail out in corners with the throttle with complete control. It could have used a bit more power though.

I went to Russo and Steele Auction (in Scottsdale) this weekend - this car was there. Reserve $125K - car SOLD for $91K. It just looked wrong - with the OPEL light and all.

The only reason Dinos may retain more value than other cars during this complete markets meltdown is their "rarity/beauty" matrix - the definition of a true collectible.

The only thing that makes a Dino a rare collectible is its originality -- replicas, incorrect restorations, bad mods make a car an interesting vehicle to own and drive, but not a thing of lasting value and desire. It's the difference between "School of Rembrandt" and a Rembrandt oil.

The car that sold at R&S was definitely "school of Dino" and not the real item. It's price is anecdotally interesting, but not relevant to the broader legit market.

I thought the Superformance Shelby Daytona "Continuation" at R&S was an extremely cool-looking replica. Anyone know what it sold for?
