I recently purchased my 1971 dino Euro Spec and would like some advice on tire sizing. The PO had 245/70/14 all around which makes the steering heavy. I was thinking of going 215/70/14 all around for a slightly wider contact patch. I also think this will liven up the steering a bit. Would you recommend this? Option #2 would be to keep the 245/70/14 in the rear and put 205/70/14 or 215/70/14 in the fronts. Has anyone experimented with various tires sizes front and rear? How does it feel? 245/70-14? I've never heard of such a thing. Is it a truck tire? You are giving up acceleration and speedometer accuracy with these tires. Get rid of them, unless you're planning to use the car to plow the north 40. If what you say is true about the 245s, and it's not a typo, they are way too wide for the 6.5 inch rim width. The more I think about that, the more I think that you're wrong about the size... Here's my suggestion. Go with the original size 205/70-14. These can be had for less than 100 bucks each (Sumitomo, available from Tire Rack, and they are good tires), or... somewhat more expensive Vredesteins (about 175 bucks), or, if you want total originality, you can get Michelin XWX at roughly 400 bucks each from Coker Tire. That's my $0.02
Search "tire" or "wheel" in Corbani's Corner, and you will find a motherlode of information on tires and wheels.
thanks dinodan I am not joking hahahaha my car came with 245/70/14 ! What can I say... Thats why I am asking you dino experts.
Some might think me a heretic, but I run 225/60 14s on both my Dinos. They don't fill up the wheel wells vertically as well as the 205/70s, but they handle well, lower the car a bit, and have a nice wide stance. One of my cars has the standard 6 1/2" Cromodoras, and the other has the 7 1/2" Campys. Choose whichever size you like. However, 245s would certainly rub during parking maneuvers. I personally wouldn't go larger than 225 mm. Fred
Yep, planning on getting them replaced asap I am leaning toward 215/70/14 I will do this when I redo my rims in the near future
Try one on your car before you buy a set. Having the same /70 relation between width and heigth on both sizes, the 215 tyre will be 1.4 cm bigger in diameter which might cause a problem in the wheel wells and the all around is 4,2 cm bigger so you speedometer will show a lower speed. Sorry for the cm instead of inches. Regards Nicolai
i'm running 225 60 14 on my 73 gts . they are very close in height to the 205 70 14 but wider. no problems at all. (have wider campy wheels but i think they work on the cromodoras as well ) dz
vrooom, As I posted abobe, I run225/60 14s on both my Dinos, one with Campys and one with Cromodoras. I've had no problems with the 225s on the 6 1/2" Cromodoras. Fred
