Where can I get the sliding 2 piece control arm that opens and closes the trunk on a 1972 GTS? Mine sticks alot and I'd like to replace it.
Greetings, Morry. Those sliding latches are pretty durable; they just get gummed up (or dried out) over the years. Yours most likely needs to be cleaned (especially the little latch inside), hit with a shot of air & lubed. The project's easier and less messy if you remove the mechanism from the car. Spray carb cleaner, spray starter fluid or solvent will generally clean it & WD40, a few drops of engine oil (e.g. 5W or 10W) or your favorite light lube should get it sliding and latching well. If it has been damaged, a bit of tweaking may be necessary. There have been a couple of discussions about sourcing these...if you still need to replace yours. Use the 'Search' option, above, for more info. Good luck, Coop
Thanks your advice worked and it is sliding properly again. I am sure it will stick again soon though....these aren't designed with cutting edge technology!
You are welcome. I'm always intrigued by how simple they are. Others have replaced them with more modern stuff...like lift struts, or the tubular slider with the little push button lock. To each his own. Coop
I believe you mean the rectangular, extending "Prop rod" that holds anyone of the three lid/bonnet/trunks up. Rutlands and Linea Veloce both have them for under $100 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280264384849 If by chance you mean the srm that releases the cable then Jacques at MaseratiSource has them http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180286769947
