Here are some additional photos of my Dino. Most were shot at high noon, so not the greatest lighting... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
All I can say to that is, it's the one that H. R. Owen in London supplied with the car when my father bought it new in early '74. Maybe they pulled it "off the shelf"...
the pouch appears to be a schedoni pouch that was manufactured in the 90's. they were available in the parts departments of the dealerships. by the way, i love the color of your car. it is nice to see a dino in an usual, original color.
I will double check with my father to see if it might possibly be a replacement. I think it's far more likely that you are mistaken (I hope you can allow for that possibility), as I was there when the car was delivered. Thanks for the compliment about the color, by the way.
hell, i am always the first person to admit i am mistaken, but i think everyone else would concour that this pouch didn't come with the car originally.
I also have that pouch, or one that is VERY similar, that is not original to my car. But more importantly, I LOVE that color. I've never seen anything like it in person, or in photos. I wonder how many Dinos were delivered in that shade? DM
forget the pouch, i would like to know how many dino's are still in their original color. of mine: originally/now 07714 silver/red 03930 marron (dark red, not the brown color)/red 04864 oro chiaro/same 04274 ???? i am guessing blue metalic/red frankly, i am so sick of red dino's. if i repaint one of my own, it won't be red.
DinoDan, When i first saw your pic's I thought god what an awfull colur! but you know what? I am now falling in love with it!. it's so screams Seventies at you. Porsche did a similar colour on the 911, was it Le mans green? wspeer, you have put the cat amongst the pidgeons!!
Thanks for all of the compliments on the color. I'm sure that it would have not been my dad's 1st choice, but it was available on the showroom floor (literally) and the alternative would have been a long wait. It has grown on us over 32 years. Stay tuned for the result of my inquiry with my dad on the controversial pouch. If it's not original, how did it come to be with a one-owner car? Hmm... I know that when the car was shipped from Europe in '78, the stereo (including speakers!) was stolen. If the original pouch was in the car, it might have been taken as well. (Obviously, plenty of time for me to forget about this.) That would mean that this replacement one (if that's what it is) dates from the early 80s at the latest. As I said, stay tuned...
I checked with my dad. He's adamant that the pouch is the one that came with the car when he picked it up at H.R. Owen in '74. We know that the car sat on the showroom floor for several months, so my guess is that this pouch somehow got substituted for the correct (?) one by the dealer.
Dealers often times snagged the pouches, but I don't mean to infer that all dealers are scoundrels. I do recall seeing a similar color on something else from the 70's perhaps it was the AMC Gremlin. In any case, it is an authetic color for the period.
I don't think the pouch was deliberately "snagged". They probably just had a stock of pouches and weren't real careful about which one went with which car. They never imagined that people 32 years later would be obsessing over them! Speaking of 70s colors. A good friend of mine "inherited" his dad's 1970 Porsche 911E. Fantastic car in great condition (with upgraded 2.7 motor, sway bars, 15" wheels, etc.) The color is what has been described as "Smurf Blue". Not at all in vogue today, but perfect for that car...
i am always willing to be corrected, but i am 99.99999999999999% positive that this pouch style didn't exist when the dino was made. please, someone correct me. this pouch isn't either period correct or dino correct.
I'm willing to let it go. The facts are that A) it's a one-owner car and B) my dad and I both remember it as being the original pouch. It's just barely possible that it was replaced for some reason in the late 70s or early 80s and we have both forgotten. Beyond that, not really very important in the grand scheme of things. If you're ever in Charleston, look me up and I'll show it to you in person.
love this colour have seen it on a 308GTB as well. THIS IS NOT MY PHOTO SO APOLOGIES AND WILL CREDIT WHEN I FIND OUT WHOSE IT IS. I WILL TAKE A PUNT AND GIVE CREDIT TO ANDREAS BIRNER: http://www.barchetta.cc/All.Ferraris/events-stories/events/2003/done/auctions/gstaad-auction-story/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Someone mentioned seeing that 308 in Gstaad on another thread. I'm pretty impressed that you were able to come up with photos! It does seem to me that I recall seeing one or two other Dinos in that color back in the 70s, but it could be my memory playing tricks...
