Is it policy to delete a thread and not notify the people who started or posted it? no warning just gone. Are there new moderators from -talk.com here now?

The thread was deleted by another moderator who left notes as to why. The problem is that only other moderators can view them. Here are his notes:

    Thread deleted by LAfun2
Reason: This issue has been taken care of by another mod. No need to incite more by such threads. Please refrain from doing so.

Good point, I need to make sure all users can read delete notices.

So what was wrong with that thread then. Did anyone inform the thread starter and let them know why? You know so they wouldn't make the same mistake again or do we just wonder why

Pat, Bruce: Again, he thought he was notifying you as to why the thread was deleted. He had no idea that you couldn't read the note he left for you.

Obviously, Ryan believed that the notice in the delete message was sufficient. I didn't realize that non-mods didn't see the notices. Read the notice posted in the pic and you'll see that it's spelled out there.

I was the one who alerted Ryan, as I do not have mod rights in this forum. The thread could only go downhill into flames, and so was cut short.

Threads that are started in order to incite flame wars to/about someone on the board are subject to moderation. Read the Fchat rules.

    Thank you

I have exchanged two PM's with Bruce.

    Reason Bruce was not warned:

    1) He did not do anything wrong.
    2) He simply posted a thread with a bit of humor in it.

I was alerted of this by another mod, and talked about it before pulling the trigger.

    So why was it deleted:

    1) Thread was deleted because of the response of other posters, and where the thread would be going.
    2) Though Bruce had good intentions of the thread, other users were using it to take unnecessary shots and start another flame war.
    3) It was a violation of Rule 1.1 No "Flaming": Please do not post any messages that harass, insult, belittle, threaten or flame another user.

Lastly, I was unaware that members can't see my reasoning for deletion. LIke Rob suggested above, he will change the settings. It was my mistake in not alerting Bruce that the thread was deleted. I apologized to him, as I did not know he couldn't see it.

    Hope that explains it.

Wow if that was consider flaming then more than half this board is going to have to be deleted. I would expect it to be done since you are followings the rules.

It doesn't even come close to explaining it. What unnecessary shots were taken? What flaming was done? Like I said before that if that was considered flaming then you mods better get cooking on the rest of this site.

You know, in my forums the threads are not deleted but simply locked. The Mod or Admin who locks it is supposed to make the last post explaining why it was locked. We do this so that others can see why it was done by reading the thread. Also, often the start of the thread has some good or funny stuff in it. In my exp, few threads actually start out in flames, they get taken to them later in the day.
