Want to change out my 550 car battery. Turn the quick disconnect switch to the off position and the car alarm sounds, so I guess it works well! How do I disconnect the power to the car, to change out the battery, without this happening? Cannot locate the information in the owners manual. Ron Side note: Have 3 fobs (1 red and 2 black) that came original to the car. Just changed out my alarm last week with a new one to clear that permanent LED on the dash that occurs on all 550's
Something's not right. I changed my battery last year, no issue with the alarm and the disconnect switch. Is your alarm off before you turn the switch?
The alarm system bypasses the master disconnect switch, but on some cars disconnecting it does seem to set off the alarm. That feature was designed to prevent the old stealing a Corvette technique of poking a hole in the battery with a sharp object so the battery would drain and the alarm would not go off.
I am thinking it needs to sync up to the connected ECU somehow? Through a drive cycle or a fob initiation sequence somehow?
You can connect a regulated 12V power supply when changing the battery to keep the systems active. Just be careful with the positive post clamp in the process.
Does the owner's manual tell you the procedure to change the battery. Also, is it printed in the owner's manual what type of battery, is spec'd with the car.
On a beach in Mexico on vacation, no way to plug in a battery maintainer, hope the battery does not drain and set the alarm. Should be fine for the next few days Can someone post the start up procedure / drive cycle procedure, I believe resetting the ecu may set up the alarm to the car.... that is what I am hoping! Taz posted the procedure a few times, however, search results are not yielding the information Thank you Ron
Thank You I thought it was a far more complex sequence of key turns in the ignition, followed by starting the car and followed by ideling, which was again followed by driving certain rpm ranges over certain distances of driving?
Here you go. This was consolidated from several WSMs and seems to work as well as the actual drive cycle. Run Cycle Run cycle. Turn battery disconnect switch off and turn off all accessories (stereo, A/C, etc). Let engine get completely cold or wait at least 30 minutes. Reconnect disconnect switch. Disarm immobilizer with the fob. Insert key in ignition and leave for 30 seconds. Turn ignition to on and leave for 30 seconds. Turn ignition off and leave for 30 seconds. Turn ignition on, wait for Check OK, and start. May have to push fob again if 120 seconds have elapsed since last fob actuation. Let idle with no input whatsoever for 10 minutes. Turn accessories back on and drive gently for 10-15 minutes at least. You will have to insert stereo code, if required.
Thanks to everyone that replied! Much appreciated will get at this when back from vacation Cheers cyber beer on me
Taz, I'm curious where the above procedure came from? The extra turning on and off of the ignition at the start is not mentioned in either the 550 or 575 WSM. The 550 WSM calls for the water temp to be at operating temp, and the 575 WSM says water temperature to be stable, so operating temp I guess. Your procedure says to start with a cold engine, that means the water temp will be rising during the 10 minute idle. Neither WSMs suggest to drive gently for at least 10 mins after. Just curious if there has been some updated info, I know the info in the WSM is not always what you'd call "accurate". It's really the water temp that I am most curious about.
I looked at several WSMs, not just the Maranello ones, and incorporated all the recommendations in them plus some of those in FNA-20. This included Motronic 5.2, Motronic 7.3, and Motronic 7.1.1 WSMs. The procedure works as well as the drive cycles Ferrari recommends. Here is what FNA 20 says: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same sequence should work for 2.7. Might be some extra steps in there, but the whole thing only takes 30 minutes.
Terry, I need to replace the battery on my 575m - for the life of me can’t get the search function on FChat to help me find threads that I know exist about this - can you suggest a specific AGM battery? Thanks in advance.
