What are you trying to teach her with all of these punishments and "learning experiences"? It seems to me that you are punishing her just to punish her, like a drill sergeant trying to break the will of the recruits. Or maybe I'm completely wrong and you are just telling us half of the story.

I'm missing where the disrespect was - was it in wearing the jeans or in the way she talked to you after you mentioned the jeans?

When you saw the jeans, why didn't you just stop and have her change clothes? At the point where you confronted her about it, what options did she have to remedy the situation?

I was pretty much forced to go when I was a kid. Probably why I quit going when i went off to college. Of course I went on holidays to apease mom. Now I go on my own free will, but to a methodist church instead of catholic.

I have to say Pete, you may gotten a little too heated over her clothes. I wore holey (holy ;)) jeans to church as a kid, but even I knew on Easter Sunday that I better at least wear slacks. So you're daughter should have known better. She definitely got defiant because she's in that "No one is right but me" stage. I've been there. My mom would yell at me for cutting new jeans I got to widen the bottom for a better fit over my shoes. lol, those were always fun arguments.

While I'm not a parent, you have to pick your battles with your daughter. I think you need to sit down and discuss your reasoning of why you got so mad and ask her side of things too. How did grandma feel about her choice of atire? Be thankful it was a small hole in the jeans and not some super short skirt.

When you have kids someday, please drop me a PM when they are 15.

PS: I have not spoken with Grandma yet.

    Both!

When I noticed the jeans, I stated that they were unacceptable. That's when she got defensive and disrespectful. My option was that we turn around and have her change into an appropriate pair of jeans or pants.

LMAO! I sure will. :D I knew you were going to say something like that.

I'll see it soon enough when my 2 cousins hit 15 in a few years. They're at that pre-teen stage now and very well behaved and quiet. It'll be interesting when they really start maturing.

Pete, for you: Colossians 3:21 "Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged."

And for Chelsea: Colossians 3:20 "Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing unto the Lord."

In the big picture, I'm damn lucky with my daughter as she has never been in trouble, she has good friends, gets good grades, etc., but like with any parent with the same (as is the case with your two cousins), it's tough to see changes in their personality that go against how a teenager should act!

One thing I always try to do before getting upset is to do a quick sanity check as to how I'll feel about it in a week and gear my reaction accordingly. Nothing gets under my skin more than a parent who goes ballistic over a situation with their kid and jokes about it a week later on the golf course with their buddies (i.e.: "My kid blew up a toilet at school, etc.)!

Heck, I think we all need to do a quick sanity check before we blow a gasket about anything. Last time I flew off the handle it nearly cost me a friendship. I learned from that night.

That's exactly how my cousins are, both are very good in school and have good friends from what I understand. They are the total opposite though. The youngest is the joyful, out going, social one, while the oldest is the quiet, sort of nerdy one. I have a feeling the youngest one will end up being the trouble makers as she ages. But I really hope the oldest comes out of her shell the older she gets. It's kind of hard for them in a family dominated by men. Now the tide has turned and girls are being born in the family, so I'm sure (God-willing) if I have a kids my first will be a girl.

I can't even remember everything I did as a kid, but I know I was grounded a lot. lol

I am amazed at what some parents will let there kids get away with these days. I was having lunch today at a local family restaurant when a family came in to eat and sat at the table next to myself when the girl took her jacket off. I was shocked to see the logo on the front of the girls shirt that had the words fashioned in a circle saying "HORNY SLUTS"!!!! To make matters worse the back of the shirt had "***UAZHL" across the shoulders.

What kind of rock were the parents living under to allow there children to wear clothes like that???

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Thinking back, giving her an iPhone was REALLY stupid. Here are my top-ten reasons:

    1) Access to anything on the internet, 24/7 for her and all of her friends. BAD!
    2) Way overkill. We do need a tether for our kids and cell phones are a great tool, but an iPhone is over the top.
    3) Monthly fee's are around $110 Vs $45 for a generic type that most kids have.
    4) There is no warranty available for iPhones that are lost, stolen or get damaged.
    5) Promotes somewhat of a snooty attitude from kids that have one. I saw it a bit with Chelsea.
    6) It bumps kid's expectations of future items that kids want.
    7) I had a hard time using it, as she was very protective of it, which I did not like...'what are you hiding'.....
    8) I was at the mercy of her not uploading a gazillion two-dollar a piece ap's from the Apple Store.
    9) The liability with other parents if kids use the iPhone to view inappropriate material on the web.
    10) I never had one when I was a kid!

This is why I put a lump of dirt in an iPhone box and gave it to my 16 year old for her birthday; her expression was priceless!

Ya........It was probably the same expression my ten year-old niece had on her face several years ago when I handed her a corn chip at a restaurant in which I filled one of the little round pockets full of salt:D

I have seen that also. Even worse is when you are in line for something, lets say at a grocery store, and the person in front of you (at any age) is wearing something like that. Is it legal? Sure. Is it proper in our society? No way! Are these the type of people who are just plain A-Holes, from what I have seen, yes, they are.

After a Ferrari run, a few FCers were at a restaurant in Calabasas (affluent community) when in walked a knock out blonde with a nicely dressed group of 4, wearing expensive jeans and a t-shirt which read,

    "You say tomato,
    I say F*** YOU!"

    Unforgettable!:):)
