    The owner's manual for my 2010 Cali says to disconnect the battery when replacing a rear tail light. Is this really necessary?

    My GUESS is incandescent, no - LED, maybe. But if you don't have the lights on, there should be no power anyway. For some reason, I rather doubt you would have the lights on anyway. ;) All instructions today are written "idiot resistant".
