I just picked up an F430 while I'm waiting for delivery of 458. The dealer told me about disconnecting valves and that it would make the car sound louder and deeper... And that it did. The sound is noticeably "meaner" and sweet. They disconnected the valves and plugged them with Golf tees. As cheap as that sounds, they were a perfect fit. I was wondering if anyone has done or has heard of this disconnecting of valves being done on a 458??

I can't help you with the question sorry but I do have one, at which rpm does the valve open on the 458? and is there one or 3? Cheers.

After hearing the 458 in person, I was also concerned about the dramatic change in quiet/loud that takes place when the valves open. A reliable and trusted Ferrrari mechanic I know told me the exact same thing... Drop the diffuser and reach up inside and pull off the two small hoses and plug them with golf tees. He said then the exhaust is running through the larger, outside pipes and that the sound will be more open and the gasses less restricted.

That will be undoubtedly the first thing I do when I take delivery. I do not like the stock 'at idle' sound at all.

the stock setup is perfect, i wldnt mess with it. in race the valves open sooner and the sound is to die for. in comfort u can cruise on the highway and still have a bluetooth call. if the valves were open all the time i really think the car wld be less usable.

So i'm guessing that means it IS doable in the 458 as well, however RickyN does make a valid point. It just blows my mind how superior my 430 sounds with valves open vs. without. Still hoping to get feedback from someone who has tried it on the 458 though.
