WTF is disney thinking? We got back from two days there. $250 for hotel (one night) and $380 for two adult, two kids two day park hoppers. That was $630 BEFORE we even stepped foot in there. How do most families afford it? If the national median income is what $38,000? That is almost 1 month's salary BEFORE taxes. Yet the place was packed.
We went in 04 in our 10-13mpg lincoln navigator. It was indeed expensive we also stayed two nights in the park. Fun though.
That's the price-ola! Not many deals to be had to get in the park other than corporate tix and the discount for staying at one of their hotels. Went there twice last year and this year. The California Grand was $750 a night for a 2-bedroom 'suite'. Stayed two nights and I believe the tickets were $260 for three of us. (The pool there is probably worth the price of the room!).
Funny thing is also that the employees made jack-squat. A former model of mine, Giselle, does the big dance shows and all. With rehersals and show time, she makes a wopping $50-60/day there. They get cheap labor to work super short hours.
Or 'Mickey Mao' HONG KONG Walt Disney has teamed up with an unlikely partner to introduce China to the wonders of Mickey Mouse: the country's Communist Youth League, founded and inspired by Chairman Mao. The collaboration, which Western diplomats have privately dubbed "Mickey Mao," aims to harness the power of the 70-million strong communist movement to promote Disney characters to Chinese children. Instead of indoctrinating young people in the communist ideology of Mao Tse-tung and the supremacy of the party, the league is beginning to inculcate a new generation in the delights of Donald Duck and the Lion King.
A few years ago we made the obligatory trip to DisneyWorld for a week there with our two daughters, who were about 8 at the time. We stayed on the concierge level at the Polynesian, which was a step or two up from a Holiday Inn, but it was convenient to the Magic Kingdom and on the mono-rail. The girls loved the pool which had a huge water slide through the inside of a volcano. I've really blocked the cost out of my mind, but we probably spent an easy $6K for that week. Disney is okay in a fake sort of way, but it is ultra expensive at every level. We called our trip there a "Once in a lifetime adventure", but not because it was so special. We don't see the need to ever go back there again. There are just too many other places in the world to see for that kind of money. BTDTBTTS. John
Household income is closer to $52k, with single worker median in the low $30's IIRC. That is crazy expensive though. Like Ashman mentioned, it's one of those, "once in a lifetime" things - I went 14 years ago to D.World in FL, and have no interest in going back until my kids can enjoy it.
Annual passes cost me and the Mrs $99 each. Daughter is free (under 3 years old). No need to stay in the hotel since it's only a 30-45 minute drive from home, depending on traffic. Of course, not everyone is in the same situation, but "locals" like us are one example of why the park is always packed.
That's true. There is a resident discount. Funny how even Disney doesn't recognize 661 as local! EXAMPLE: Downtown Valencia.............. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'd say Walt was a pretty smart guy. 50 years later and they're still coming. The secret "bargain" is to find someone with a membership to Club 33. You pay for lunch ($50-approx.) and it comes with admission to both parks for the whole day. It's hands down the nicest place to dine and Mickey, etc. come by for pics with the kids with no crowds. Only place in Disneyland with cocktails, too.
The price of DisneyLand makes me so pissed, I can't even have a good time when I go anymore. Once you pay 8 bucks or whatever to park, then you sit on the diesel-smelling tram, then get hit for 50-60 for a ticket, THEN you get to wait in hour-long lines and get hit with strollers. If you're lucky, you can take a break and have an $8 hamburger (oh - you want cheese??). Maybe I'm just getting old....
My mom bought our whole family D-Land passes. @ $200 each, they're a decent deal for someone who lives in SoCal. After going 4 times, you've covered your pass price. Its a great place to take a date...
This is kinda funny. We B&M about spending $400 a day at the park and will never think twice about spending $3K for a new clutch in our sport cars!
At least we had the pleasure of wearing out the old one....WITHOUT the feeling of being ripped off by the "Ravenous Rat"!
We did the two day two park hopper. I got the local So Cal discount and it still was $380 for 4 tickets. I really did not want to spend the night in a hotel but oh well. I lost.....again.
Disney World is worth what ever they charge because it is a top of the line theme park, Great Adventure isn't worth 1/10th of what they charge IMO. Last time I went to the one in NJ 10 rides were broken, including Kingda KA.
Yep! You know that thing along the freeway that routes the water THROUGH your dustbowl and delivers it here, to civilization? Image Unavailable, Please Login
