I've been kicking around how to display my 1:18s.
The wife does not like the acrylic ones.
So, anyone have a nice wood one? where did you get it?
I want a mirrored back, and I want it enclosed. There were previously on a gutter type shelf from Room and Board, but we have moved, and I did not like having to dust them.
I've found some on a few web sites, but I'm not that intersted in spending $1000 on a case.

maybe post up some pics of yours?
    thanks

Try Exoticar. Their website has a lot, but I would recommend putting yourself on their mailing list for their brochure. They have some great stuff.

But their customer service is the WORST.

AUTOart makes some nice display cases, maybe try them?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay as far away from Exoticar as you can.

The absolute worst model company ever. There's and endless list of people here who have been snubbed by them.

You might want to check out IKEA's stuff. I got my display cases from there (Detolf) its glass and lighted, so it works out well for me. My only gripe with the ones that I have, wish that they came with more shelves.

I'd agree with IKEA, while I have a huge bookcase my brother-in -law built for me, the IKEA cases are very nice, especially for 1/18 scale.

Well… how many are we talking about???? If you're like me and have about 230+ of them, then the only thing that comes to mind is a custom built book case with class shelves and sliding doors. I too have this same problem and I’ve been thinking about building a custom case (see image below) to fit all my cars in a 12' x 72" x 13" wood case made into two sections and then add a mirror backing with 9 glass shelves with 4 glass doors that's attached to one of my den's walls. I have a buddy who’s a cabinet maker who I’m going to ask if he could build me the wood case for about $800ish then I would have to spend another $600 to 800ish for the mirror and glass. It's still cheaper that a standard 6' x 72" x 15" case from a furniture store for about $1200 each. My drawing doesn’t include lighting, and crown molding to spruce it up a bit. All my cars are in red so painting or staining the case in black which should bring out the color in the cars. Good luck in what ever you chose to display your cars.

    thanks for the responses.
    I have about 20-25 1:18ths.

    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10011055

these are kind of nice, not expensive, but could only fit 2-3 per shelf, depending on how close together you want them.
I e-mailed IKEA to see if the shelves are adjustable, and if I could add a shelf or 2.

BTW... I've realized I do not have NEARLY THE PROBLEM with models that some of you do!
(had to show the wife the pics... now she understands I'm "not that bad")

    for 1/18, over 700... for 1/12 over 60+

Each level maximum has 24 cars......

And there are 13 display looks like these.... and 2 small ones for 1/12 models

That is pretty nice. I'd have to check it out in person. My bedroom is very very small. But it may fit in a corner perfectly. I'm gonna have to check this out closer.

IT is pretty tight in space with my huge collection, as my collection is growing at a rate of 10-15 cars per month.

Only in Sep and Oct, I bought 60 cars from local shops and ebay auctions.

The DETOLF display looks nice but it cannot add extra shelf in its design, I have seen this in IKEA shop at Hong Kong. Each level fits 2 cars only...... the other way to display more, you can make some arylic support to hold 2 more cars... you can see in my display, some level have a double deck at the back.... that's the arylic support I have added into it... each holds 8 cars.....

It is not expensive to make those arylic support in Hong Kong, but it is not too common to find such shops in USA/Canada.

For years I used display cases by ACI.

I used them at my store, at vendor events like the Barrett-Jackson Auction and at my home. They are incredible displays

Nice design... IT would be ok for 230 cars around....

but my shelves (the one shows the Mclaren and F355 is half of the whole shelve), the dimension is about 40"(L) X 24" (D) X 76"(H)

The one (up-level) show the Mclaren and F355 can show up to 104 cars. The down-level also about to hold another 80 cars max(but usually hold 64-72 cars)

So, for the whole shelve, 40"(L) X 24" (D) X 76"(H), it stores a maximum of 184 cars with tight spacing......

This one looks great for 1:18. It is 42 cm deep, with your "average" 1:18 being about 25 cm long. 104 cm long... thats a fair # of models per shelf, depending on how you place them.
    price is not too bad.
I've found some really nice stuff on the internet, but I'm not paying $2500.... thats 50% of the "major" service my 308 needs within the next year!

    NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
    from their website:

ACI-Display has made some major changes. Please make note of the following information:

    (1) After 20 years of serving the retail industry, and 45,000 display cases later, we've decided to discontinue the production of all glass enclosed floor-standing display cases. This is largly due to skyrocketing freight costs and the everchanging gift industry.

too bad. those would have been the one!
