Wanted to start a discussion on displaying 1/43 models. With the cardbox box or without? In or out of the clear plastic case? With or without the plinth/base? In a diorama or just on a shelf?

For years, I've always tried to take the easy way of just keeping everything the way they came - mounted on the plinth in the clear case and box but still displayed on a shelf. The problem with this is unless you are displaying variations of packaging, the boxes cut out a lot of light. So, I've been considering just displaying without the outer box. But then, where do I put all the extra volume of boxes? Even broken down/folded, they still take some room. If I'm going to go that far, why not just display directly on shelves without even the plinth?

    What does everyone else do?

For my 1/18, it's a no brainer - they are out of box and direct on shelves since the models are less fragile and they take up too much shelf space otherwise.

For my 1/64 HW, I used to have one in card and one opened on a shelf but then the carded ones started taking up too much room. After all, I'm not buying these for an investment...

Definitely out of the box. Invest in some good displays that hang on the walls.

all my handbuilts are kept in their displaycases.
BBR makes nice ones to keep them in. 'Most large handbuilts come in plexiglass cases. If not I have cases made.
In the old days the handbuilts came new on a plinth. Unless you keep them in an absolutely dustfree case they will "dust up" and the photo-etching metal will fade

It also depends on the value and make. Diecast are not very sensitive, allthough If i would collect cmc or exoto I would neatly cover them...

I do a little of both..

I have a shelf dedicated to one long row, behind glass.

Then I tend to display "pairs" of the cars around in other places of the house. Still in the lucite cube but not in the box it came in.

I'm afraid time has taken most of the cardboard from my collection. Ya'll sort it after I'm dead! LOL!

I use the plattform (if it is nice and if it has some data on it) and put off the plexiglass!

But i display the models in a big glass display so the plexiglas is not important!

Out of the glass display i use the plexiglass covers!

    Greetings Christian

i display mine out of the cardboard (if thats what they are) boxes but in the plastic case and either on a shelf or in a bigger display cabinet. I honestly just dont have room anywhere to store a million small boxes.
