Bet we have all had that sinking feeling? What have I done!

Reversing the car last week it to my garage space, little bit tight, in a hurry and that awful sound of scraping paint. Caught the offside mirror on the metal overstraping on the garage door frame - what a feeling.

Luckily only the mirror casing is paint scraped, mirror intact and casing not cracked so it should be a fairly simple job over the winter to remove the passenger mirror and have it re-painted.

Now I'm pretty sure I can't be the first idiot to do this, so can anyone please confirm how the mirror is removed? (Not that I'm suggesting anyone else is a fellow idiot)
I'm assuming that having looked underneath the mirror housing that you remove the three screws, that there must be a snap connector for the electrics and the mirror housing slides out. Am I correct or totally way of the mark?

Advice and a point in the right direction will be much appreciated.

I couldn't stand my mirrors being close to the door jams so i opted for a wider garage door.

A little late of course but if it happened once there is certainly the possibility of it happening again.

Not a biggie, any good paint shop should handle it.

Pay cash, don't tell insurance and enjoy the car!!!

I think the mirror comes off easy. You are going to take off the inside speaker cover first to see what is involved. The triangle plastic part just pops out without screws. Pull it down from the top to get it out from under the rubber seal.

I would be tempted to wet sand that area first with some 3000 grit paper and then buff with some compound first. I bet a lot of that white is just paint from house. You might be able to mask the area off and apply the lightest of sprays in multiple coats of black spray paint to hide until you need to respray the bumper for rock chips.

Some good rubbing with a rough terry towel and cleaner wax might get a lot of that white out too as a first measure.

From a fellow idiot - Minor issue. I had the deck lid up and jacked the car up. Guess what, when the garage is open it won't clear the garage door. DARN. In my case it could be color sanded and is all good.

Yuck, I worry about doing that all the time. Look on the bright side, it wasn't a body panel.
