Can anyone tell me how I can check whether the advance on my single dist euro 308 is sticking? One minute it runs ok the next with a terrible misfire. When started sometimes the rpm go crazy but the cable isn't sticking. The revs are also erratic occasionally. Checked all the usual culprits - plug extneders, leads cap etc.

Well, you can read the timing marks thru the inspection plate on the flywheel, but to "calibrate it" properly you really need the antique distributor calibration machine that matches the car......

It's rather a 'plug and play' situation once they are in the car.......

Lubing the advance mechanism is a function on the Service Interval........maybe someone more versed than I, could walk you thru that.....it does indeed cause wonky behavior if it malfunctions....it's strictly centrifical based on the weights and springs...
