Not sure if anyone else has encountered this problem yet but the last few sets of replacement distributor caps we have been sent have been faulty.

After having problems we 5 sets in a row we determined that the rotor was hitting the pickup points, our conclusion was that the mold likely shifted when being set up and therefore the pickups are now off center.

We have made a tool in out machine that now modify's the internal pickup points and sets the center points correctly. Please PM me if anyone has this problem and would like to have theirs fixed, I will charge a small price of $30 each to try and re capture the mountain of hours lost on jobs over this issue.

Sorry should have clarified. Our issues, so far, have been with the replacement Magnetti Marelli caps for all the 308 and 328 models.

Just a thought, but if the pickup points were off center would that mean that some would interfere with the rotor and some would be too far from the rotor? You can mill away the material where it interferes but how to you build up the material where the rotor to pickup gap is too wide?

My experience with bad cap/rotor interference is from domestic suppliers. The caps from superformance have been quite good. 1982 308GTSi
