Well I did a DIY job and have a few issues I need help with.

I had a hole in my radiator by a freak event sucked in through the air dam and right through the radiator.

SO I went and removed the radiator and put another one in. When I went to bleed the radiator I overtightened the bleeder screw and it snapped in the thermostat housing.

SO I removed the thermostat housing and drilled it out then put a new bleeder screw in.

Now my temp gauge shows over range but it is not a true reading as the car has been sitting for over 4 hours.

Have I stuffed the temp sensor or something but I didn't touch it??

What else do I look for to solve this as it is truely a false reading on the temp gauge.

Or do I just buy a new sensor but which one?

    Thanks in advance.

So with the engine not running (cold) the temp gauge reads high?

Yes whithout the engine running when you turn on the auxillaries the temp reading is off the scale.

Engine is totally cold after 4 hours

Your ground is missing, or the temperature sensor is clipped somehow. When you replaced the radiator, did you make note, pictures of all the wires and put them back snug and tight in all the right spots?

I didn't have the problem when the radiator was replaced. The problem occurred when I had to take out the thermostat housing to repair the bleeder screw. This is where the temp gauage went AWOL.

Is there a grounding and if so where please?

    All connections are in.

I would disconnect the temp sensor and blow off the connecting pins throughly with some compressed air, ensure that nothing is shorting the pins. This can screw up your reading.

Also you almost certainly got some metallic particles in your coolant. Personally, I would dump the coolant and flush the system, then do a fresh refill. Coolant and DI water are pretty cheap.. In the process of doing that, take the temp sensor out, and clean it throughly with a lint free cloth. using DI water, do NOT use soap.

If the sensor was working properly before your debackel, then chances are that the sensor is just fine, there is something else in the system screwing up the reading. The sensor IS doing it's job... Right now it's telling you something is not right, but you already know that...

Also, the sensor might have failed, however you would have to do some research, to see if the temp sensor fails hot, or fails cold.. i don't know the answer to that, sorry.

Thanks for this. I took the thermostat housing completely out and fixed it so there should be no particles anywhere.

I also blew lots of compressed air through the sensor and still it reads off scale.

I suppose I would have to take the sensor out and look at it or buy a new one?

    Thanks for the tips.
