Owners manual say The engine oil level must be checked while engine is warm and idling and at least 160F with the cap resting on the filler neck.

What I failed to realize is - Ferrari uses Aluminum Oil Caps, and aluminum conducts heat, so when I grabbed the oil cap to check oil level - OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost burned my fingers....

I dont know what technique you folks uses but I just thought I'd share my method.

So I purchased a pair of Heat Resistant Gloves from Amazon.

Not only these gloves are heat resistant it also has non slip grips. So I use this glove now to check my oil level and it works great. I dont feel any heat and it grabs the aluminum oil cap without slipping.

It comes in a pair so I keep one in the luggage compartment and one in my garage.

    Just thought I'd share:

I keep an oven glove in the trunk much to the amusement of others when I get it out to check the oil!

I tried paper towel but its too slippery and not a good heat insulator for my hand.

I'll have to remember this in the summer. I do have a single silicone impregnated oven glove. Thanks dan.

I'd like to buy a pair of these heat resistant gloves; however, I want them in red with a Ferrari logo, preferably a logo which is properly licensed. I am not willing to pay over eight hundred bucks unless they are really nice, in which case I'd pay a thousand dollars but that is my absolute limit.

    LOL!

And you are absolutely correct. Anytime Ferrari puts their name on it the price at a minimum quadruples.

I will make a suggestion to Ferrari. Im sure there will be a market for it.

Maybe get one of these but with the Ferrari logo. This was given to Richard Hammond on Top Gear because he has been told by Porsche not to drive his 911 GT3 as they have incidents of them catching fire. My favorite car show.

I can vouch for the need for gloves, ouch! One thing I haven't seen here on the forum is the result of slight overfilling. I found that just a half quart over perfectly "full" (on a full oil temp and running car) will cause extreme frothing of the oil in the checking process, so much so that it's bubbling to the top of the fill opening while running and impossible to take the level. And worse, after some number of drives the car may smoke on startup (like an old Porsche, ha!) After removing one quart and rechecking after another drive and seeing it just under the bottom line, I added back just a 1/2 quart and now it's just under the top line, no froth and running and sounding perfect. Lesson is despite having a pretty large oil capacity, it seems the 360 is very sensitive to even slight overfilling. From reading many comments and posts here and elsewhere I hadn't seen anyone comment on how exactly much overfill it takes to cause problems. Also, I didn't notice it at the time, but after correcting the oil fill level the car sounded much better and more like it used to. When it's running at it's best, I've found at steady RPM it makes a harmonic cycling sound like an aircraft engine. Very nice.
