Is there any ability to record?
Spot on, now i have it and i think it is going to be a reasonable easy fit. I did not realise they both had the same video box as the pictures on say Amazon only show part of the items. Many thanks and i will order the bits up now i understand how it works. Ta mike
I see garmin now have a sat nav with a dashcam incorporated in it- it will also work with this garmin reversing camera setup. Dashcam runs at the same time as the sat nav
Great question. Place the rear view camera video transmitter ECU as far away from the hot engine as possible. I placed mine on the driver side, all the way forward. Its cooler up there and closer to the Navigation Monitor display for best reception of wireless video signal. Sorry I no longer have pictures as my computer hard drive failed. But I have a post here somewhere on that mod. Dan
The kit has arrived- re position of the rear video box, did you stick it to the engine side panal up by the rear view window and run the cable in the void behind it ?
Here you go, this is where I put my rear view camera video transmitter ECU. See photo below with the yellow circle. Run the wires along side the existing wire runs I marked as yellow. Hope that helps. Dan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Many thanks, i see someone has fitted the steering wheel on the wrong side. Whos exhaust box ? as nice finish
I thought all steering wheels are supposed to be on the left side? I have Agency Power headers and Kline Innovation Exhaust. See and hear sound here: Dan
Yes they still do have them on the wrong side in the Colonies i believe. Do you still have the exhaust valves working on that setup ?
Kline exhaust comes with a remote valve controller. The controller gets inserted in the cigarette lighter jack (where it gets is power from)
Im bumping this thread as I see some posts asking about installing back up camera. Here you go. Hope this helps some of you. Dan
Just providing an update to this thread of mine. Again, goal is to back up safely and not back up blind and accidentally hurt someone like a little child, a pet, an animal, stuff on the ground, or damage your car. Looks like Garmin has released new wireless back up cameras. More options available now. Note that I have no affiliation to any business. Just trying to help others. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/cOnTheRoad-c533-p1.html Dan
I like the idea of the cameras that snap onto rear license plates, but my concern is that they may be easily stolen. Anyone had issues with that?
Thanks Dan for the recommendation! I just purchased the Navigator and backup camera bundle for my 458.
God I hope not! I learned early in life to never wish for something you dont really want to happen. Even if it gets stolen, $150.00 is not a big loss. Is your car a daily driver? Do you park it in bad neighborhoods?
We dont get many car thefts here and with a rav 4 parked in front of garage u r safe enough. I have get the camera mounted but then had to get the extension cable for it ( stupid long thing). Just need to finish it off this month.
If anyone is interested in a wired backup camera solution (if you have a headunit that can support it), I recently installed this one which mounts to my license plate frame. I was able to wire it through the right side of the engine bay and use the existing pass through into the cabin behind the passenger seat. It took me about a half day to get it all set up, but works very well. Hi Aaron, this looks like a nice camera for me. Did you need to lift the car? It sounds like you did not. I assume you moved the passenger seat all the way forward and removed that panel behind it to access a pass through. If you have more insight or tips that would be great. I have read mixed things and some said they had to lift the car. I was going to get this professionally installed, but the audio shops are closed indefinitely still. Bc of Corona. I didn't need to lift the car. It did take a bit of MacGyver-ing to reach down and get the cable pushed through the firewall. I pushed a coat hanger through from inside with a string attached, grabbed it from the engine bay and then used it to pull the video cable back through. I did have to cut the end off the video cable to fit it and then re-solder it once it got it all the way through the center tunnel and behind the stereo. Also used the hanger to snake through the center console area as well. Just go slow and take your time.
My 1st back up camera was a wired back up camera system. It took me 2 full days to install it as I had to fish the camera wires from the rear license plate frame all the way to the center console. Not easy........... I had to also install heat wrap on the camera wiring to protect the wiring from intense engine bay heat. I eventually removed everything & switched to wireless using the Garmin back up camera system above. Very easy installation. The only downside again for the wireless system is there is a lag of about 2 seconds before the video shows up so just back up slowly or go forward slowly and wait for the video image to show up.
