How often would you change/ flush the F1 fluid? Not possible without one of those pricey scanners like Dan did it in his video , no?

 

The best way to do this...without a tool ..is let the system depressurize (,over night or longer ) ..keep hatch open and then suck as much fluid out of reservoir..and replace exactly the same amount ..go for a nice drive shifting all gears and making some.turns .. repeat 2 or 3 times .. once a year or every two years depending on mileage

So as easy as loosening the reservoir cap over night, sucking out as much fluid as you can the next day, refilling the same amount...drive repeat a couple of times? That seems almost easier than using the tool in a way.

 

Yes...not as complete ..but even " Dan" didn't do the complete job ..he left the dead end aide of the actuator not flushed

Natural fluid dynamics will cause the older fluid to slow back small amount of time ..so if you do this every year and then on the third or fourth Sona true flush/bleed removing actuator you will be golden

Thanks; so when you say "depressurize" you mean just opening the reservoir cap slightly so pressure is released ?

 

One thing ..if you track or out alot of miles the fluid could be "cooked" near clutch ..

But majority of us put a few hundred or thousand miles and doesn't really need to do a full flush every year ..and again a full flush includes actuator

No.. the system builds pressure when you open the doors .. so you want to let it sit overnight without opening door or turning key .. so you leave hatch open as well over night

The alternative is to release pressure using relieve screw ..but wanted to make it easier

The purpose is have the least amount of pressure is so fluid is at the most high in reservoir

Great technique Allen, I need to do it this way. Considering what you normally do I'm not the least bit surprised to see that you're so efficient.

I basically do one thing at a time to avoid screwing, up this is better!

And I am also interested in how you got those control alarms so clean.

May I ask please, what year is your F430 and what Colour is it, I like that Colour (Canadian Spelling)

 

If there is an award for 'Cleanest wheel well', I think you just got the trophy. HOW did you clean every last spot! and how long did that take? I spent a good couple hours on mine and could not get it that clean.

DIYer here. I was 16 years old when I took my 300ZX Twin Turbo, that I saved up working at Arby’s since I was 14 years old to buy, to a shop to fix a sputtering engine and no brake pedal feel. They said $5,000. The brake calipers needed to be swapped because they are super rare (Readily available at Autozone at the time), and the entire engine writing harness needed to be replaced. At that moment I learned how to work on cars myself all the way to pulling engines. You know what the two problems ended up costing me to fix? $5,000? Nope. $40. The front calipers were on the wrong sides so the bleed nipple was on the bottom. Obviously it needs to be on the top. The brakes were fixed. Then I bought two coil pack harness connectors and learned how to cut the old ones out and soldered the new ones into the harness. Shrink wrap and all. Running on 4 of 6 cylinders was fixed. This was a very reputable shop also and really nice looking. I learned to not trust any of them that day.

til today I am still a DIYer. Part out of necessity, but also because I have never been impressed with the work from shops. None of them. Dealerships, and smaller shops. I’ve always found issues I am not happy with. I am a firm believer that as long as I know how to do something, I will take my time, follow all specs, and clean things before and after, better than any shop. Are there things I won’t know how to do or won’t have the time to do? Absolutely. At that time, I will do my research and take my car somewhere highly recommended to be worked on. I will try my best to do it myself before that though, but only if I am 100% certain I can do it correctly.

Last reason is because there is a pride in doing the work in your car yourself. “Anyone” can buy a car. But to be the one that maintained it top notch is something to really be proud of in my opinion and is more than half the fun/pride.

 

Sonax wheel cleaner gets mine perfect every time!!! This stuff is legit!!

I was referring to the fact that Allen got every screw, clamp, surface, even the ridges of the rubber accordion covers spotless, that must have taken some doing
