Do 328/308 have safety design steering columns?

    The splined shaft that connects to the steering column can slide within the column to provide "crush" in a frontal collision. FWIW, the US mandated collapsible steering columns in production vehicles beginning with the 1968 model year.

    Look closely at the design, it's really not the US style SOLID column as ours have the u joints in them.

    So, that plus the spline collapse section pretty much insure you wont be impaled as you would be by an early GM unit.

    Then, those two little mushroom posts catch the hood and bend it in half, saving you from decapitation, the spare tire provides the upward thrust from below to bend the panel.

    Everything's covered!
    I suppose they wrecked three 'glass cars to get 1976 DOT, maybe someone can find that!

    Or, got a Small Production variance.....
