    Repectfully, you have mellower cams.

Also...WHY would anyone get a Historic Plate on their car if they had to pass emissions? Completely senseless.

No disrespect taken, I am comfortable with the size of my cams. :)

Seems that after the car passes a smog test to get the historical car tags, that's it...no future smog tests. Not a bad rationale.

There are several no smog zip codes in San Diego county. I don't think you can get away with a P.O. Box in one of them though. They want a physical address. Ironic (maybe not), Palomar Mountain is one of them :).

    cheers all

    Lol.

You 308 owners are all acceleration obsessed, admit it.

"Seems" doesn't seem all that ironclad, but I hope it's true. (But I wouldn't buy a car based on that hope...)

True. This omission of smog requirement for post-75 cars with historical tags is apparently an admin thing; not listed on the CA DMV website with the official exemptions.

Mine passed ansd it NEVER had catalytic convertors, find someone to put the razor tune on your Webers that uses a 4 gas analyzer.

They can always tweak 'em back if there's running issues.
I never found that to be the case...

Guys, FINALLY got it to pass. So California, and I'm rarely this crass, can bl*w me. Still astounded by the idiocy of the whole racket; truly astonishing.

Thanks for the insight, suggestions and support :) Now maybe I can actually drive the car!

to bullfighter: Never posted before, hope this works, to get registered in Ca. as historical, must First pass smog! Then you don't need to smog check anymore, but are obliged to keep all the smog equip on. I'm in the same situation here in Ca. with my 1979. It has all the orig smog equip but still won't pass. Gasoline now days is not the same as it was in 1979 and it is not as volatile, and occasional misses, which blows unburned hydros through. Don't know what to do. Good luck.

Congrats Scott... Enjoy your new ride...and be sure to document what you did to get it to pass as you get to do it all again in 2 years (mine again comes up in 10 months )

I also have a 79 and I would suggest the following ...(without knowing what you have already done) New plugs , new extenders, new wires, check timing, Idle jets #s? Main Jets #s? new magnaflow cats..get it hot before test and try and get the tester to try the 2500 rpm test in 3 rd gear instead of second or visa versa. Worked for me.

    Good luck

Import enough non methanol fuel to take/pass the test?

There's a Sunoco Racing distributor up the street...:D
