just wondering if i should put marlboro decals on my 75th win 1:18?
would it be better and increase value if it stays original as is or go up if i put it on?

Anything you do to a model will decrease the value unless it is a custom one off job..Let's see the stickers---I'll be happy to put them on a 355 model...

None of the HotWheels models will increase in value regardless. Way too many produced.

A limited production top of the line CMC model *MIGHT* increase in value. But probably by so little, that putting the money in the bank is a better investment.

Put the decals on as they make the model more authentic and don't worry about value increase. The value you get out of your collection is your pleasure of looking at them.

wait wait and wait and one day in the very far future it maybe more valuable or not.

If you're a collector, don't think in money, it's a hobby and hobbies are expensive!
If you want to collect in a smart way, invest in very rare handbuilts and one offs, they don't come cheap......but keep their value if you keep them in a perfect state.

Diecasts are not going tobe rare and are never likely to be rare.

I respect your thoughts about too many Hot Wheels die-cast being made, but I don't agree they will not raise in value.

I have watched everyone of them go up in price every year. I used to sell die-cast, and an example would be the the F399 1:18 HW's. I bought like 25 of them to sell on my site for around 12 bucks each. Today they are going for around 25-45 USD and with decals added they sell for 2 x's that.

I think its stupid though, and that car is really one of the worst Hot Wheels F1's.

Being a proud owner of almost every Ferrari produced in 1:18 and following the market I would have to disagree with most of you. For anyone putting down Hotwheels ( I am not a big fan of theirs myself) I have an offer. I will pay them $50 over the original MSRP for the chrome car on red leather plinth celebrating Schumi's 6th world title. Also if mods decrease the value of a model then I would love to pay Msrp for a Monza F2001, the one with the black nose and no decals at all ( in which case there is nothing added, just removed).
My point is that prices are driven by demand. 10 years ago I bought 3 Anson 328 GTS for $10 each. They are not the best quality and neither is the 250SWB by Jueff but they both demand their original prices tenfold. Both were mass produced.
I agree mainly with one thing. This is a hobby (an expensive one) and it should be just that. A joy to possess something that gives you pleasure. I have converted a few of my F1s to tobacco markings and I can bet that I can sell each one of them for more than what I paid for it.
(zipping my flame suit) Actually most real Ferraris depreciate (%wise) more than the models that represent them.
    Just my 2cents.

As a collector, I would've said that decals done well add value
...as a seller though I know that it's rarely true

Interesting question really (no need for a flame suit). You could make cases either way. Currently a real Enzo goes for twice its retail price, which you can't say about its models. But it also works the other way round. We would need more data to make this one stick one way or the other.

I would say it depends. For a diecast, the purist will probably want it original. For the tifosi, add the decals. For a HW product, anything you do will improve those creatures. Those looking for decals, try Hobbylink Japan, www.hlj.com. I'm pretty sure Museum Collection and Tabu are still making smokes decals for the F1 cars. Also Grand Prix Models grandprixmodels.co.uk in the UK may have some items. Spendy with the exchange rate. Both are good shops and honest sellers.

I'd hold off on putting the tobacco decals on this particular model, i think it will be worth more w/o them if you ever wanted to sell it.
Check e-bay and maybe get a second car to do the conversion to.
    just my 2 cents.
