I'm asking because dropped in at Mecum Monterey and was surprised they had a glassed-in showroom at the Marriott with exotic cars including Ferraris. But RM-Sothebys also had a showroom full of Ferraris in downtown Monterey and Gooding had Italian exotics out near the Quail. What I'm wondering is if auction bidders cross-shop all the auctions at Monterey or do they pick one to attend and bid at before they even leave home? Also anyone care to rank Monterey's auctions in order on who has the most Ferraris for auction at Monterey on down to least, in order of rank 1 to 5, 1 being the most Ferraris?

When you're talking Monterey, I don't think the audiences are vastly different at all. I'm the type of buyer who pursues a particular year/make/model, some folks get more granular than that and are searching for a particular pedigree/story or chassis. I would only attend the auction that has the car I'm looking for. If I was looking for (as an example) a Ferrari 288 GTO, and three auction houses were offering one, I'd go to all three previews and inspect the cars. If they all met whatever criteria I had, then I'd attend three auctions. For me, it's not about which auction to attend, it's about what car I want to buy. That's all hypothetical as I've never attended an auction in Monterey, but if I was searching for a car, had the funds to buy it, then that's exactly how I'd go about it. I have gone to several auction previews though, a lot of cool cars to be seen. It seems RM always has the cars I like most, but I've never bothered to see who has more Ferraris than the other.
