Do electric muscle stimulators really work?

Is that an "AS SEEN ON TV" 3 minutes per day, electronic ab muscle stimulator in your pants or are you just happy to see Lamour?

Have you consulted a trainer? I don't think the electric things are supposed to work very well. Besides, even if they did they would only be mimmicking the exertion of doing ab exercises. Usually it's a factor of diet/exercise. Assuming your body came equipped with a full set of musculature, it probably means that you have some fat deposit (doesn't have to be much) blocking the appearance of those muscles that you can only reduce through modified diet and continued exercise. If you can feel the muscles getting stronger, you're working them properly. But that won't necessarily make them stand out.

 

EMS units only work in a isometric fashion if your strength is below 50% of normal. After your strength is 50% or above you need resistance with joint motion to increase strength / tone. We use EMS units in the clinically setting for immediate post op orthopedic patients to increase the strength and mind to muscle connection that is lost secondary to tournequet time while in surgery. You can recruit more muscle fibers with EMS units but you have to have resistance and joint movement as well. Hope that helps.

Personally i think it is a waste. The keys are a diet that is in moderation, aerobic activity, and strength training. If it doesn't happen by those means no pill, or machine will make it happen. You, like the rest of us are stuck with the genetics you were given.
